Subject: West Ada Quality of Lifeuan 'under the radar' issue
Dear Reporters:
My wife and I moved from Suburban Denver to Meridian three years ago to enjoy a less out-of- control
growth environment. We settled in Woodbridge due to its good access and design. It was surrounded by
undeveloped land, but we were relieved when reassured that the zoning was for office/commercial
development, not the more congesting residential category.
Contrary to the above expectation and reassurance, the City Council on June 6 has the option of
giving approval to high density residential development with the certain result of lowered quality of life for
Woodbridge residents. The Council has the legal right to 'stick it to us'. but we rely on the press to shine
light on the impact of their actions.
Ralph Paley's letter to the editor a couple of days ago was brilliant. He affirms the fallacy of leadership
which touts more growth when traffic congestion is already out of control. Where is the collective courage
and wisdom to bring common sense to the decision process? It makes no sense to increase traffic in the
Eaglell-84 area, the most congested area in the Valley.
Most citizens have disdain for eminent domain decisions which transfer wealth from a private party to a
developer. Zoning decisions often have the same impact. By changing the intensity of development, the
quality of life, and eventually property values, will be diminished.

To quote Mr Paley: "Traffic control in Meridian is the worst in the West". Please use your creative influence
to not only inform, but to educate for corrective change. There must be a better way than currently exists.
The vast majority of Woodbridge residents signed petitions resisting the zoning change. Is there an
explanation for proceeding with action which has only negative impact on the adjacent residents as well as
the community at-large?
Best wishes.
