Hello,
I am currently a resident of Bainbridge that butts up to Bridgetower. We have some major concerns
about the apartments/multi family housing planned next to Walmart. While I understand the big need
for accessible housing, our current infrastructure is unable to support more apartments/housing in this
area. Here are some concerns:
1. I invite you to drive west on McMillan to McDermott. Start at Meridian Rd and McMillan and continue
west all the way to McDermott. There are already several subs going in and McMillan is unable to handle
the current amount of traffic this brings. It is a 2 lane road that needs updates. It’s backed up a lot and
left turns are nearly impossible to make safely at certain times of day. Black cat is also a two lane road
unable to handle the current amount of traffic. We have Costco and Walmart in one block with only Ten
Mile updated to 4 lanes.
2. Schools in this area. The newest elementary school, Pleasant View, is already nearly at capacity if not
over. It took less than 2 years for this to happen. With the current new subs going in, to add these
apartments now would put this school way over capacity. I have a current 4th grader there and they
have struggled to keep enough teachers. Traffic is a nightmare in the area to drop off and pick up.
Adding these apartments is going to make it worse. Hunter elementary is over capacity, Sawtooth is over
capacity, Star middle is nearly at capacity and this neighborhood filters to Star Middle. There is a new
middle school slated to go in near Pleasant View but that’s a few years away.
Again, I understand this need for housing but please consider the surrounding area updates, major
updates, that are needed before approving this. West Meridian roads have not been updated to
accommodate the growth out here and the new schools need to be built before adding even more
students. It’s not fair to the kids to have over capacity schools. Please put this on hold until the correct
infrastructure updates are made.
Thank you,
Anna Schreiber
