Good morning,
I wanted to take a moment to share a few of my concerns.
From a public safety perspective, these apartments would cause a few things to occur.
- traffic backups on McMillan would drastically increase, causing erroneous driving (worse than already exists)
- children and families crossing McMillan, from Bridge Tower West (South division) to the North division where the local
elementary school and shared pool are, would pose a huge risk. That crossing is unpatroled and has zero traffic lights to
support better traffic flow.
- last year, our daughter went to the local elementary school. There were roughly 30 kids per teacher which by almost all
schools nationally, is at or beyond an acceptable level.
My proposed next steps:
- have a 3rd party study conducted to understand the social, economic and public safety impact (positive & negative)
with adding housing in the area.
- this should also encompass the empty lot to the east of the Southern bridge Tower West section, that sits on the
corner of Ten Mile and McMillian.
- the output of the study should conclude what is a reasonable growth rate of the area and include road expansion
plans.
As you know, the new developments off of Blackcat, between Ustick and McMillian, will add significantly more traffic.
My hope is that we can add more housing to the area but also limit the number to maintain an orderly flow of traffic
and reasonable growth rate.
