I am asking you the mayor and you city council to honor the newly adopted district map and not make changes to get your own way. You had asked the committee assigned to this project not to consider where city council members lived while they planned district lines and which city council seats would reside in what district. You are now attempting to change the seat numbers of 2 councilmen so those members can continue in their positions. If this ordinance is not passed, 2 city council members will not be able to continue in their positions. City attorney Bill Nary says if this ordinance is not passed then these positions would stay empty until the 2025 elections; however, when Boise faced this same issue they simply opted to elect council members in these districts for shorter terms. This would also be possible for here in Meridian. Again, I am asking you the mayor and you city council to honor the newly adopted district map and not make changes to get your own way.
