The general city election in November 2023 will be for districts 1, 3, and 5 - which will correspond to City Council seats 2, 4, and 6. CORRECTION – 1, 3, and 5. Those who currently hold seat 2, 4, and 6 were elected in November 2021 and will remain in those seats until the end of their term which is January 2026. During the 2025 general city election, seats 2, 4, and 6 will transition to being districted seats. 1 I am aware that is a long and possibly confusing response. The short answer is councilmembers will be elected to districts once their current term expires - three at the end of 2023 and three at the end of 2025. The ordinance that was passed earlier this year to establish this process can be found at this link: https://weblink.meridiancity.org/WebLink/DocView.aspx?id=255888&dbid=0&repo=MeridianCity The change to election by district is based on recent changes to state law (Idaho Code 50-707A), which can be read here: https://legislature.idaho.gov/statutesrules/idstat/title50/t50ch7/sect50-707a/. Thank you for your question. I hope you will consider attending or viewing one or both of the public hearings on the proposed districting map. Have a great evening.
