HomeMy WebLinkAboutMicrosoft Outlook - Memo Style Meridian Districting Committee Meeting Agenda City Council Chambers, 33 East Broadway Avenue Meridian, Idaho Friday, May 06, 2022 at 1:30 PM CALL TO ORDER Committee Chair Greer called the meeting to order at 1:33 pm ROLL CALL ATTENDANCE Committee Members Cory, Jagosh, Nesmith, Steed, Larsen and Greer were in attendance. Ex-officio members McClure and Tripple were in attendance. Others in attendance were City Clerk Johnson and Deputy City Attorney Starman. REVIEW AND DISCUSSION OF POTENTIAL MERIDIAN CITY COUNCIL DISTRICT MAPS Mr. McClure provided a recap of the maps that were included as part of the meeting packet. The committee discussed their preferences and the considerations they needed to make related to neighborhoods, geographic boundaries, future growth, and variance. The committee ranked the maps by preference from 1 to 5 with 1 being the top choice. The maps were ranked by voice vote with the map scoring the lowest average being the top choice. In order of preference, the maps ranked as follows: (1) Option #1, (2) Steve #1, (3- tie) Steve #2 and Trent #1, and (5) Option #2. The Meridian Districting Committee convenes to establish City Council districts for the City of Meridian pursuant to Idaho Code section 50-707A and the Ordinances of the City of Meridian The votes were as follows: Committee Member Option #1 Option #2 Steve #1 Steve #2 Trent #1 CORY 4 5 2 3 1 JAGOSH 4 5 2 3 1 NESMITH 1 3 2 4 5 STEED 1 2 3 4 5 LARSEN 1 5 2 3 4 GREER 1 3 2 4 5 Total Points 12 23 13 21 21 Average Rank 2 3.83 2.16 3.5 3.5 Motion by Cory, Second by Nesmith to present Option #1 and Steve #1 at two public hearings. All in favor. The committee directed the clerk to notice the public hearings. The committee elected to cancel the May 13, 2022 meeting, and to adopt the following public hearing schedule: Public Hearing 1: Friday, May 20 at 10:00 am. Public Hearing 2: Thursday, June 9 at 6:00 pm. Both Public Hearings will be held at Meridian City Hall. The committee assigned each of the six districts a number, 1 through 6, and directed the Clerk to publish the maps along with the public hearing notice labeled as such. The committee directed that the maps will be labeled as Option #1 and Option #2, with the original Option #1 keeping said name, and Steve #1 being renamed Option #2. Trent Tripple shared information related to the public hearing process used at the state level The committee may schedule a future meeting after public input is received to approve the resolution to be sent to City Council stating their final decision on districting.
