We are in receipt of the review comments for the CZC application A-2022-0016, and we
are pleased to provide this additional information in response. We hope that this
narrative addresses your questions, and please don't hesitate to contact our office if
more information is needed.
- See redlines on plans - A Design Review exception is required is required for the use of aluminum metal panels
as one of the primary building materials to 5.11 in the Architectural Standards Checklist. Please revise the narrative
per the following: Any request for a design standard exception must be requested in writing concurrent with the
administrative design review submittal. The request should specify the folowing: » the standard(s) that are
proposed to be exempt. including the actual text: » the reason the exception is requested: and » how the
alternative means for compliance meet the intent and goals of the requested standard exemption. or how the
alternative proposes to maintain a similar level of effort by exceeding other site and building
Design Review exception to use aluminum composite material (ACM) panels:
-Standard that is proposed to be exempt:
5.11 Untextured concrete panels and prefabricated steel panels are prohibited as
field materials for building facades, except when used with a minimum of two
other qualifying field materials and meeting all other material requirements.
-Reason the exception is requested/ How the alternative means for compliance meet
the intent and goals of the requested standard exemption, or how the alternative
proposes to maintain a similar level of effort by exceeding other site and building:
`Prefabricated steel panels' are steel panels as used in pre-engineered steel
buildings, tilt -up construction, and formed/extruded steel panels such as
corrugated metal siding. Aluminum composite material (ACM) panels are a
higher class material that embody the characteristics desired in the development
code. The finished product results in a durable material that is not susceptible to
wear and tear. ACM will not deteriorate quickly in weather or by ultra -violet light
either. Section 5.10 expressly mentions metal as an approved material. Section
5.11 then eliminates steel. Our product is aluminum panels. Please see the
following information on the proposed ACM product. Within the areas where
ACM is being proposed, we have a mid -tone field ACM color, with
complementing lighter and darker accent ACM colors used as well. The scale of
these walls are broken down through horizontal/ vertical reveals, and panel size
variation going above the requirements prescribed in section 1.3.

Aluminum Composite Material (ACM)
Aluminum composite panels consist of an extruded core that's fusion bonded between
two sheets of coil -coated aluminum, brushed aluminum, or anodized material. The
result is a highly corrosion -resistant, rigid -yet -flexible material that weighs 3.4 times less
than steel and 1.6 times less than pure aluminum.
