Hi Alan,
My husband and I own two homes near 4175 S Leaning Tower Avenue in the
Normandy subdivision in Meridian. We own 4189 and 4208. I talked with Kenny from
the Fire Department and he recommended I reach out to you.
The current daycare licensed up to six kids has been causing a lot of traffic and safety
concerns for my tenants. This neighborhood was never designed to house daycares
and CBH, the original developer told a different buyer just a few years ago in this same
neighborhood who wanted to open a daycare, that they would not be allowed. (Our
realtor used to work for CBH and is personally aware of this request that was denied.)
These are small lots, only five feet apart with hardly any street parking. We’ve had to
call code enforcement about this home’s illegal parking. They have been partially
blocking my tenant’s driveway. They also park the wrong direction quite frequently as
well.
I personally almost hit one of the children in front of the daycare. It was in the afternoon
and they had cars parked on both sides of the road. I saw the child right away and
thankfully was going very slow. The child was standing next to an adult, but as soon as I
almost cleared, the child immediately darted in front of my car. What was even more
concerning is not a single adult that was outside with a child went after them or
appeared to let them know how dangerous that was. As a mother, this was a terrifying
situation for me and is a strong example of how there is not adequate parking to support
the current daycare operation, since it appears the home has 4-5 cars of its own that
are always parking on their driveway and street.
Please let me know what we need to do to formally protest the application for the
daycare to be expanded. Honestly, we are having a hard time understanding how they
got licensed in the first place for up to six kids with the limited street parking and
knowing the history that CBH said daycares would not be allowed in the Normandy
subdivision.
Thanks so much,
Mark and Nicole Neumann
