POLICE DEPARTMENT COMMENTS:
I wanted to touch base with you regarding the Seasons at Meridian development application. In reading
your narrative and reviewing the elevations it appears to me that these units have climate-controlled
hallways (not garden style) with controlled access entry points? If that is the case you will be required to
plan for emergency police access into each building entry point using a multi-technology keypad. This
will allow police access, if there is an emergency, into the building if someone isn’t able to come to the
door to allow police entrance. Otherwise, police would have to breach the door to gain access which
isn’t ideal for anyone and delays our response. I have attached a product (you don’t have to use this
one) that has been used on several Brighton projects at 10-mile and the Bri at the Village. Police will
have their own access code (same for each building) to use in an emergency.
In addition, all buildings must have numbers (or letters) displayed prominently so police, fire and
paramedics can quickly find a building number and unit number day or night. Have someone take a look
at the lighting package to ensure this will be covered along with any pathway lighting. Finally, placing
wayfinding signs for the whole complex at each entrance.
Hi Lieutenant,
I confirmed with my client that they are happy to comply with the items you describe above.
To clarify, the hallways will not be climate controlled, they are open air but with controlled access. In
other jurisdictions they use knox boxes. The site lighting and wayfinding signs will be detailed in the
Design Review and CZC drawings. Please let me know if there’s anything else we can clarify.
