Project: Meridian High School Ball Field and Technical Center
RECEIVED
FEB 2 1 2006
City of Meridian
City Clerk Office
Location: north of Pine Avenue and west of Linder Road
Applications: annexation and zoning (9.71 acres), conditional use (14.26 acres), and variance
Highlights of Proposed Development: anexation and zoning of 9.71 acres to R-4 (Medium-Low Density
Residential) and conditional use approval for a new Technical Education Center and ball fields to expand
on the existing Meridian High School campus. The applicant is also requesting a Variance to UDC 11-
3A -11 C for exposed light bulbs on the proposed athletic field lighting fixtures.
Proposed Institutional Square Footage: 68,875
Number of Proposed Buildings: 1
Number of New Ball Fields: 3
Other: The requirement for downshielding is two-fold: one is to prevent light pollution of the night sky,
the other is to prevent glare on adjoining properties. The School District has addressed the glare on the
adjoining properties. Staff recognizes that this ball field use is different from standard non-residential uses
in the City and is therefore recommending approval.
Elevations:
Yes
Commission Recommendation: approval at their January 5, 2006, hearing.
. In favor: Margie Kennedy, Wendell Bigham, Don Nesbitt
. In opposition: None.
. Commenting: Paul Geile
Key Issues of Discussion by Commission:
. Design of ballfield lighting
. Tiling of the Rutledge Lateral
. Impact of proposal on adjacent properties
Key Commission Changes to Staff Recommendation: None.
Outstanding Issue(s) for City Council: The applicant has requested that, per UDC II-3A-6A3a, the
requirement to pipe the Rutledge Lateral be waived by City Council; we believe that the adjoining
property owner, Mr. Geile, would like to see it tiled.
Findings:
Yes-for approval on all items
