Subject: Alternative Compliance Narrative for Micron Crucial Rear Parking Lot Expansion

Micron would like to request a variance from regulation 11-3B-8.C.2 requiring internal landscaping
planters in the Micron Crucial parking lot expansion. The micron crucial building has been
converted to office spaces as an interim measure to house workers during remodel construction of
office buildings at their Boise campus. At the end of this construction period Micron plans to vacate
the building, and the building will more than likely return to a more intense industrial use. Whose
owner will likely use the area for storage or shipping and receiving. Internal landscaped islands
would be detrimental to this type of property use.
Micron is instead proposing to relocate the trees that would be required for the internal parking
area landscaping to the perimeter buffer areas and around detention ponds. All trees will be
selected from the Meridian City Code’s Approved Water Conserving Tree Species Table 11-3B-5-1
and the “Treasure Valley Tree Selection Guide”. Approved water conserving trees were checked
against local nursery availability and recommendations for species selection. The landscape plant
materials are also chosen for low water needs, low maintenance and with ground cover mulch and a
weathermatic controller, low water irrigation system. The alternative design intent is to meet the
planning requirements.
