Bonito Way, #140 Meridian, Idaho 83642 208-288-0573 1 of 6 ..w DRAINAGE SYSTEM OVERVIEW SHEPHERD CREEK PROJECT NO. 19296 Shepherd Creek Subdivision is located within the City of Meridian between Overland Rd. and Victory Rd. to the West of Meridian Rd. The site consists of single-family lots located on approximately 32.5 acres. This report includes the drainage system layout with flow rates and design calculations. EXISTING CONDITIONS The project site presently consists of an empty field. The Hardin Drain currently runs through the site but is being piped in an 18" pipe along the East and North sides of the site. The drain carries all pre -development flows. PROPOSED CONDITIONS The onsite drainage will be conveyed by surface systems. The surface flow will be contained within the pavement sections to designed low points which will convey flow to percolation trenches (seepage beds). These trenches will have a sand/grease trap at the storm drain discharge point before entering into the seepage bed. Where grading does not permit drainage to the street, lots will be drained to the back of the lots. The pressurized irrgation trench will be backfilled with sand and/or drain rock per the details in the construction drawings. This trench will provide adequate storage for the stormflows for those areas. The seepage beds were sized to handle all nuisance/water quality flows and for storing the design event. The 25-year and 100-year events were analyzed for this development to determine sizing of the various drainage structures. The rational formula (Q=CIA) was used to estimate the peak runoff rates for all basins. The 'C' values were taken from Exhibit "A" of the Ada County Highway District policy manual. In cases where there were different runoff coeficients for a drainage basin, a composit runoff coefficient was determined. The drainage area for each seepage bed is shown on the attached "Drainage Plan" drawing. The average rainfall intensity is estimated from the attached "Rainfall Intensity -Duration - Frequency Relationship" figure for a 25 year and 100 year runoff event. The time of concentration is determined by adding the longest overland grass flow time and/or gutter flow time. In the event that the storm flows for two or more drainage basins are combined into one sand and grease trap or seepage bed, the longest time of concentration for the individual basins is used to calculate rainfall intensities for all associated basins. Calculations and spreadsheets are included with this report for all drainage improvements. SOIL CONDITIONS Based upon the soils and subsurface investigation for this subdivision there should be no problems with the existing soils for drainage as designed. However, in the event that during construction we encounter either groundwater or rock, a revised design will be done based upon field conditions. 2 of 6 . SHEPHERD CREEK CALCULATION METHODS PROJECT NO. 19296 Pages for Calculation Methods are provided for the sole purpose of displaying quations used for subsequent calculations. A Stanley Group Company Engineering, Environmental and Construction Services - Worldwide December 4, 2006 Matthew Schultz President RMR Development, Inc. 2127 S Alaska Way Meridian, ID 83642 Dear Matt: Subject: Shepherd Creek - Centerline Grades vs. Groundwater Per our telephone discussion with your Geotechnical consultant Bob Arnold on November 28, 2006, groundwater for the project was not encountered during subsurface exploration. Mr. Arnold went to a depth of 13'+/- for his analysis. Free draining material was encountered at 8.5' and therefore all subsurface drainage facilities were designed to accommodate these restraints (10'+ in depth). From the street profile design and this geotechnical information, Stanley Consultants states that all street finish centerline elevations are set a minimum of three (3') feet above the highest established normal groundwater elevation. To date, Stanley Consultants has not received the final report, but we are satisfied with the telephone information from this consultant. If there are any questions, please contact Ben Kovanda or myself at 208.288.0573.
