Attn: Commissioner Andrew Seal
Dear Commissioner,
I attended the meeting tonight at the city council 9/16/21 regarding the building of additional apartments on Blue Heron
(Heron Village Apartments). Thank you for the opportunity to speak and share my concerns. As you know the parking
situation is a major issue. The developers and owners don’t live here so they don’t really know the reality of the
situation nor do they have to deal with their tenant issues on a daily basis. These being mainly parking, noise and trash
issues. And if not made to address these concerns they won’t. And these concerns will only get worse with more
apartments. I live across the street from Blue Heron at 138 East Waterbury in the Heronbrook Townhomes. This 55 plus
community has a private street with posted signs, in which the apartment tenants ignore. Our home owners here use
wheelchairs and walkers and I am concerned for them as well as myself. Our safety should be a concern to all.

After the Public hearing tonight and returning home, myself and a neighbor counted 43 cars and trucks parked on the
street! The surveyed numbers spoken of tonight at the hearing and reality are very different. There has been times
when the entire street all the way to the Meat Packers is full of cars. We Have called Meridian parking enforcement
many times for the removal of abandoned cars, vandalized cars, cars parked and blocking sidewalks, cars parked
blocking the exits and entrance to our streets, on Waterbury and Richter and cars parked in front of the fire hydrant. I
would like to address my concerns again concerning the fact that the apartment residents have no stop sign upon
exiting the apartments. Which shouldn’t matter as common sense says to look before pulling out onto the street. Our
residents here at the Heronbrook Senior Townhomes, including myself have had many close calls of being hit because
they don’t look or stop when pulling out. And most likely the parked cars on the street block their view as well. Please
consider no parking markings near N Meridian Road. It is so dangerous pulling off Meridian due to the parked cars!
As far as the trash goes, we appreciate that you all agreed for more trash cans to be added for easy access but of
course that Won’t help our side of the street and it will only make a difference if they use them. We have no control
over that. Nevertheless it is extremely frustrating.
Thank you again for allowing us to speak our concerns, for your support and especially for the positive suggestions to
address the issues.
Respectfully,
Valinda Sorenson
