Subject:Testimony: Briar Ridge Subdivision H-2021-0036

To whom it may concern,
I submit the following testimony regarding the Briar Ridge Subdivision proposed in south Meridian, along the
west side of Highway 69. My main concern with the development is the proposal to have a (temporary)
second exit for the subdivision, which would be directly onto the highway, on the south end of the
subdivision.
I am a resident of Shafer View Estates, located on the south side of Highway 69. Briar Ridge would be located
directly across the highway from Shafer View Estates. 95% of my arrivals home are via southbound Meridian
Road. In almost all trips must pull into the center lane and wait for northbound traffic to clear before safely
turning left onto Shafer View Drive. Today, as traffic continually increases, I feel more and more like a sitting
duck, waiting for space to turn. My husband and I have often had conversations about how all it would take is
someone not paying attention to accidently swerve into the center lane and hit us head-on. There are no
concrete barriers for our street, as are being put in place at other areas along the highway (examples @
Quartz Creek, Calderwood). If an exit is allowed for Brian Ridge, with access for residents to turn left out of
Briar Ridge, heading northbound on the highway, they will be yet another potential for a head-on accident.
While we would want drivers to not use the center lane to "get up to speed", we know that they do and they
will. The conflict between that car and my car is inevitable. The highway is not flat in this area so it's difficult to
tell which lane an oncoming car is in. Several of my neighbors have commented on how tough it is to tell
which lane northbound traffic is in ,as we sit waiting to pull out onto the highway. I suspect the same will be
the case for Briar Ridge residents. If this temporary exit onto the highway is allowed, it cannot safely allow
residents to turn left (northbound). A concrete barrier such as what was recently installed at Quartz Creek
needs to be put in place.
Thank you for your consideration.
