External Sender - Please use caution with links or attachments. Dear Council Members, I'm writing in strong opposition to the Oasis proposed location at Ustick and Eagle. I attended the first meeting with Planning and Zoning where the owner proposed the Oasis Club at this location. I was shocked at what I witnessed and heard from the owner of this proposed club as he kept changing his proposal. Let me first start by saying I am the mother of a beautiful Asian daughter that we adopted from China. She is our pride and joy and recently graduated with honors thanks to her perseverance, hard work, being a person of integrity, NOT due to her race. I was shocked when the owner of this club tried to play the race card in his opening statements and the first commissioner to speak addressed what he did, saying he was very offended by that accusation. I was too! Secondly, Eagle and Ustick is already a congested and overcrowded area and I was shocked to learn that a traffic study was never done. That to me is totally irresponsible of the city not to do that in the very beginning. The lack of parking is a huge issue that I fear will be a problem resulting in patrons parking in other business lots, neighborhoods, and along the roadway making that area even more dangerous and concerning for all of us and our families. Most importantly, I am strongly opposed to the Oasis at this location as nightclubs do not belong in residential areas. I am a teacher and we teach about cities in our curriculum and help kids to understand the different zoning areas. NIghtclubs and other businesses of this nature do not belong so close to residential areas like at the present site at Ustick and Eagle. I am deeply concerned about the negative impact a place like this would have for all of us that choose to live here. It is well documented that vandalism, litter, drug use, sexual assault, and other violent crimes are byproducts of this type of establishment. A nightclub here would negatively impact the quality of life we all have treasured and enjoyed for years as citizens of Meridian. Thank you for your time and I am confident you will make the decision that is best for those of us so close to this establishment by listening to us and not allowing it to go forward at the present location at Ustick and Eagle Road. Sincerely, Joyce Mauck An educator, caring mother, and resident of Meridian 1
