Dear Mayor and City Council members:
My wife and I have lived in Summerfield Subdivision for over 20 years, within a mile of the proposed Oasis nightclub, and
we are strongly opposed to you allowing this proposed business to be developed and carried on in this location. We
have raised our family in this neighborhood, taking our children to elementary school, church, shopping, and out to eat
around this location every day. The proposed location for this nightclub is right in the middle of numerous
neighborhoods full of families, many of which are raising children. There are plenty of other places where this
establishment could be located that would still meet the owners’ business interests without denigrating the family
friendly atmosphere of this particular area. To some extent this nightclub would negatively change the character of the
area in a way that would make it less appealing to those who want to buy a home and raise their families here, thereby
diminishing our property values. This is not an establishment whose business model is based on promoting music and
the arts. While it’s not the same as a strip club, it is an entertainment venue whose own promotional material make it
pretty clear they want to make money off of men wanting to hook up with women in an alcohol and party atmosphere.
We are not saying this is illegal, but why put it in the middle of our family neighborhoods. And such an establishment
would increase the likelihood of certain illegal activities, like drunk drivers, excessive noise, drugs, assaults, etc. The
values, messages, and activities promoted by this nightclub are contrary to what most parents are trying to instill in their
children. We agree with the comments made by the many others objecting to the proposed application for The Oasis
nightclub at the Eagle Road/Ustick intersection, and request that you deny the application.
