To whom it may concern: I wish to submit my concerns regarding the planned Centerville subdivision. This subdivision as planned is going to adversely affect surrounding neighborhoods and property values, due to the huge number of units (the proverbial 10 lbs crammed into a 5 lb box) the number of which doesn’t seem to have been reduced significantly after initial objections that were raised by surrounding residents, and the huge increases and impact this will have on traffic, noise and safety on both Amity and Hillsdale Ave. As a resident who lives directly across from the Elementary school and near the single crosswalk for the school, it would directly affect the enjoyment of my property if several hundred new elementary students will be traversing the sidewalk behind my home to cross to Hillsdale elementary. It will impact the noise, the surrounding landscape, and make navigating Stockenham and Hillsdale more dangerous for both children and drivers. It’s already challenging, especially in the afternoon to get out to shopping and errands navigating the line of cars of parents picking up their children backed up from the school up Hillsdale to in front of the YMCA. The surrounding roads are absolutely not prepared for the increased number of vehicles that will be pouring out onto both Amity and Hillsdale, and neither looks like they can or will be expanded and I’m not aware of a plan for public transportation(?). The planned density is three time the planned amount of residents for the parcel. I understand that traffic studies were apparently conducted during COVID and do not reflect existing traffic levels so it’s dishonest and disingenuous to use those as a guide. When Shelburne, the planned High school, and the new over 55 Community are built, those will only exacerbate the issues. The YMCA is already at capacity, the Elementary school is already at capacity, and the nearby St. Luke’s Clinic is already at capacity – so I am curious what additional infrastructure improvements are planned? The planned parking seems to be inadequate – where is the parking overflow going to go? How will this development impact utilities and irrigation for neighboring communities? We are already being told that the irrigation water may be turned off early or unavailable due to drought. As residents who purchased in Century Farm we did so specifically to avoid high density housing, overcrowding, noise and traffic. What happened to the Meridian city land use plan for lower density to make Meridian a premier place to live, work and raise a family? This is not it. The styling and density of this development is not congruent with surrounding communities and it smacks of someone receiving Government incentives or subsidies to ‘diversify’ the community, current residents be damned.
