Dear Mayor and City Council,
I am a family physician and assistant professor of family medicine at the Idaho College of Osteopathic
Medicine, and moved with my family to Star Ln. in Meridian just over a year ago. We have loved it here! We
left Washington state and specifically headed for Meridian because of the top-notch, family-friendly
environment here, and we have not been disappointed.
I only recently discovered the land development on Utsick and Eagle that I so often drive by is going to include
a nightclub. I am incredibly disappointed that the city council would have approved this in the first place, and
that they are pushing forward with it despite strong opposition.
I am pro-business, pro-development, and I think encouraging business in our area and bringing long term
prosperity is a great idea. However, I strongly believe we must unflinchingly protect the culture and values of
Meridian, which is the key factor driving my family, and so many others, to come to Meridian. It is
shortsighted to approve a business that, while in the short term may bring in more money, in the long term
undermines what makes Meridian special and attractive.
Please do the right thing and prevent the Oasis nightclub project from moving forward. I will not support, and
will actively work against the election of, any city council member who turns a blind eye to all of us who are
concerned about the negative impact this project will have on our neighborhoods and pushes forward with
approval anyway. Please reconsider your direction.
Sincerely,
Ben Wilson, MD
