City Clerk of Meridian: I am strongly opposed to the R-15 rezoning of Locust Grove and Victory neighborhood for higher density housing. The intersection at Locust Grove and Victory already has a high accident rate due to poor sight lines, a crowded intersection, and the exceptionally high volume of traffic. Traffic delays from 6 AM until 9 AM, from 11 AM until 2 PM, and again from 3 PM until after 7 PM already significantly increase the accident and congestion danger in this area. We do not need increasing numbers of accidents or delays. Residency is continually increasing to the south of this intersection. Increased intensity of people on land near the intersection will compound the already significant traffic congestion. Multi-family dwellings bring more school buses attempting to enter and exit these complexes at peak, critical traffic congestion periods. Increasing the population density of people and their vehicles on these narrow, not well-maintained roads will only increase the danger to all drivers in this single family home area. Driveways and side streets from multi-family housing areas have had major negative impacts on other areas of Meridian. We do not need additional problems for our neighborhood. If the City Council is sincere in its effort to improve the safety and quality of life for our neighborhood’s residents, please focus your attention on: 1) repairing and widening Locust Grove and Victory to: a) at least 3 -lane roads, including a center turn lane for these rural developing neighborhoods, or b) four (4) lane roadways with center passing/turn lanes, 2) making major intersections into traffic circles, particularly at Locust Grove and Victory, a housing area, to help reduce congestion, reduce accidents and improve movement of the high traffic flow. Please vote NO on the R-15 rezone proposal of Locust Grove and Victory neighborhoods.
