Thank you Carol! Much appreciated! I'm really sorry to hear that the neighbors didn't feel that they were
well-informed by the applicant about the current zoning. Perhaps because they were planning on building a
less intense use. If you ever find yourself in that situation again, please feel free to call your City and ask
questions.
I will forward your message to the City Clerk for the file record.
Sincerely,
Councilwoman Perreault

Ms. Perreault,
At the 4.20.21 Public City Council meeting, you remarked that you were surprised that the
residents of Movado Greens would not object to 65’ commercial buildings backing up to their
residences. Of course we WOULD OBJECT to 65’ commercial buildings. I, as well as my fellow
neighbors, were told by Movado developer representatives and our realtors that there would be
LIGHT commercial adjacent to us. Maybe it was our lack of understanding of the terminology that
created a vision of one story, village type commercial establishments as are evident all along
Overland. Maybe we were not told (on purpose - I hope not) the real height limits of “light
commercial.” From the start, we were objecting to the possibility of high
rise “anything” buildings as well as the influx of an unknown number of new residents and their
potential impact on our community. Many of us felt deceived by that original, pre-sell messaging.
And we, as you, care about the health of our community, both immediate around us, and the
1
larger city. Just wanted you and the rest of council to have a clearer
background.
I am encouraged that you are still a strong advocate for affordable housing (your bio). In need of
a drier climate, I moved here for health reasons. In 2019 I could afford the home I now
have. With its increase in price, today it would be most difficult for me to afford my present
property. And there are many more people with incomes lower than my resources.
You and council members and the City of Meridian have a huge responsibility. A growing city that
takes up valuable farm land and greatly impacts the environment represents questions
and answers that affects generations. I see at every level water stewardship as critical, not to
mention carbon output and land for farming, as more and more people move to Meridian.
I learned much at the 4.20.21 council meeting. I feel the decision on H-2020-0123 was a positive
one with all aspects considered. I appreciate the council members preparedness, their
professionalism, and their accepting, inviting exchange with the public.
Sincerely,
Carol Ogburn
