Hi, I’m writing to request that you please oppose higher density housing in South Meridian, specifically, the Victory/Locust Grove rezoning of the property on the South West corner. I live South of Victory near Amity, and with all the new subdivisions being built to the South, the traffic has become a real issue. And as you know, there are more developments coming to Lake Hazel/Amity that will add even more traffic. Traffic in the morning used to be fine getting out of my subdivision onto Locust Grove because there wasn’t a lot of traffic coming from the South, however, that’s no longer the case. And in the evenings, traffic going South is now backed up every evening past E Wrightwood, and to get out of my subdivision I have to rely on a kind soul to let me pull out to go North. However, I can’t see if cars are coming from the South, or cars turning East into the subdivision across the street from me. I’ve already had a couple of close calls even though I pull out very slowly. On top of that, cars have discovered a shortcut through our subdivision that takes them from Locust Grove over to Meridian Rd, which has resulted in a lot of speeding cars through our neighborhood. We also have a roundabout and the speeders like to go the wrong way around it to bypass the circle - I live right above that roundabout and on a hill which is very popular with kids from all over riding their bikes and skateboards fast down the hill - this is a disaster waiting to happen! Traffic is already piling up at the light at Victory, in both directions heading north/south - in the mornings and evenings. With all of the new homes that have already been built to the South, we’re seeing the results which includes lots of time sitting in the car on Locust Grove, dangerous situations trying to pull out of subdivisions onto Locust Grove, and increased traffic/speeders taking the shortcut through our subdivision. With all of the traffic and safety issues that come with increased density in an already crowded area, I oppose squeezing even more homes in an area that is already suffering from too much traffic. I, like a lot of people, moved out South to get away from all the traffic and have a little space to enjoy and live in a quiet area - adding so many more homes right on a heavily traveled intersection will only negatively impact the area and overtax our already overtaxed roads. Most people in this area do not want high density. We understand we can’t stop growth - we just want responsible growth that respects the long time residents of the area. There’s a ton of land closer to the freeway and bus routes. Why not let the rural areas be rural. Keep the high density where it belongs, closer to amenities and short distances to freeway access, not out in the country where it will stick out like a sore thumb, add more stress to already frustrated drivers, and continue to add more traffic to roads that can’t even handle the current traffic? I hope you can understand why people are upset about this development, and others like it, for all of the reasons I’ve listed.
