Dear Members of the Planning and Zoning Committee,
I am a lifelong Boise Native and would like to share my concerns with the proposed Oasis nightclub.
My husband and I recently bought a home in November of 2020 off of Eagle Rd to raise our family in. We chose to move
to Meridian as it has become more family-oriented than Boise as many, many out of staters are discovering the hidden
gem of the Treasure Valley and moving here.
We welcome all who wish to come and live in this beautiful place to do so, but we also want to keep it a beautiful place.
We were unaware of The Oasis Nightclub being built when we purchased our home and had we known, it would have
made a difference as to where we moved.
Eagle Rd is an incredibly, incredibly busy road. My children know it is called the "Dangerous Road" and to never be alone
on it. Not even crosswalks are to be trusted on Eagle Rd. The very intersection the Oasis Night Club is looking to build,
my husband's co-worker Sandy Hernandez was hit by a cement truck and killed while in the crosswalk. This was a tragic
accident. It happened in the middle of the day, no drugs or alcohol were involved and yet this tragedy still occurred.
Imagine how many more tragedies will occur with a nightclub promoting alcohol and late-night hours could occur.
The location is not ideal for a nightclub. It is right in front of a residential area where families have already been
established for years. It is across the street from many local businesses and will further increase the congestion of Eagle
Road.
A nightclub would be a great thing to bring to the Treasure Valley, but I implore you to reconsider allowing this location
to be used as such. The Boise Towne Square Mall is a location I would like to propose. The mall has lost many businesses
and is a dying location. There is plenty of parking surrounding the mall and is not directly near any residential housing.
Please protect the environment in which we have chosen to raise our family. Please help keep Meridian family-centered
and safe. Please choose not to provide The Oasis with the permit. It is not what the citizens of Meridian want. Please
help mediate a win-win solution for all parties involved.
Thank you,
Camille Schildan
