Meridian, ID 83646 March 16, 2021 Dear Meridian Planning Zone Members, I am writing in opposition to the zoning permit for Oasis. I am writing because I live in the Summerfield Subdivision which is off Ustick and within 1 mile of the proposed Oasis. My opposition is based on several factors. First, is traffic. In the 9 years we have lived here, we have seen major building projects completed or soon to be completed. Three 55+ housing subdivisions have been built plus multiple apartments/townhouses are built or being completed all within this 1-mile radius. Businesses have also been added. This has obviously led to increased traffic. Now we are facing a venue that adds more traffic until 2:00am. The owner of Oasis states he believes his patrons will use some shared rides which will decrease some traffic but the Oasis can hold 500 people, many who will drive. Second, I am opposed to a “nightclub” being in this area. Although the owner says only 20% of his business will be nightclub related it still exists in this facility. When researching Electronic Dance Music (EDM) one article states “drugs are a part of the EDM culture and turning a blind eye to the role that 1 they may play will not serve anyone.” Other articles discuss drugs, “being yourself” and “being open to new experiences” while at an EDM. This is not the behavior or culture I want in my neighborhood. I do not want to see increased accidents, emergency calls or people stopping in our subdivision due to drug related or other impaired incidents. I am not opposed to an EDM somewhere however I do not believe it belongs on Eagle Road and Ustick. I suggest looking along Franklin Road which has several open areas or other business type areas.
