Mayor Simison and whom it may concern, My name is Eric Schuermann, and I had the pleasure of meeting Brian Tsai a couple of months ago, at my store, when he came to notify me about his proposed business. Brian is building his dream; an events center, concert house, and lounge on the southwest corner of Eagle and Ustick. It's going to be state-of-the-art, and amazing for many events. The venue will host work parties, weddings, dances, birthdays, concerts, as well as function as an upscale lounge. The venue will be nothing short of amazing from what I hear, and let's just say that this place will be one of a kind in Idaho, and it'll be right here in the center of our valley, and city of Meridian, which is very exciting. Meridian has virtually no high end nightlife beyond 10-11pm, and no nice small concert venues that I know of. Meridian is my home, and a city that is very small business centric, and family oriented. I plan to live out the rest of my days here, and those things were what attracted me to Idaho, and Meridian in specific. With that said, that doesn't mean that adults in the city don't want to have fun. Music is a huge part of my life, and I want to be able to take my wife out for dinner and drinks, or a concert, without having to worry about the high cost of ride share and longer travel time to Boise, or navigating downtown myself and not being able to have adult beverages, so I can drive us home. I prefer not to go to downtown Boise anyway, because of the college town atmosphere, but sometimes I want something nicer or more music centered than a bar. The Oasis will be close to the Village, centrally located, state of the art, upscale, and safe. Brian, the owner is an Idaho native, lives here in Boise, and is investing a metric ton of money in our city to bring his dream to life here in Meridian, and I think that’s awesome! Oasis has a ton of support, but of course I’ve heard a few sour apples have sent over emails opposing the project, claiming it will bring crime and somehow ruin the family atmosphere of Meridian, and this is simply unsubstantiated. There are bars in Meridian that aren't upscale, that aren't state-of-the-art, and that aren't an events center, that are open daily, and in just about the same proximity to the Village. Anything that the letters from those opposing this state, that this venue will bring, cannot differ from those establishments already operating in business close by, and in my opinion is a nonsensical argument. Eagle is the corridor for entertainment, and this will be a great addition to Meridian’s entertainment portfolio. I decided to write in because I feel passionately not only about music, but also the idea behind a local person, willing to bring something awesome to our community, and others trying to block it, senselessly, because it doesn’t conform to their particular way of life, or possibly because they have skin in the game, and don’t want to have to innovate their businesses to compete. I'll be attending the meeting in person as well, because I’m concerned about the future of the city, when it seems that some here would prefer dirt lots over small business, innovation, and entertainment. I’m also interested to hear from others, in a non-anonymous way, why it would be a bad idea for Meridian to permit this project, and the city of Meridian’s response, and ultimate decision.
