I appreciate you taking time to share your thoughts and comments. Because this project is part of an open application, myself and City Council members are prohibited from commenting outside the public hearing. We take public feedback seriously and want you to know that I have received your email and have read your comments. A public hearing before the City of Meridian Planning & Zoning Commission will be held on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at 6:00pm. The Planning and Zoning Commission will make the decision on this project unless their ruling is appealed. If that occurs it would then be heard by the City Council. While I do not have a vote unless there is a tie, any comments regarding the project should be reserved for that public process. Your email and my response will be included in the public record. The City Clerk has the project file available online for review: The Oasis CUP H-2021-0004. Prior to the public hearing anyone is able to review the application materials at any time as well as submit testimony. If you have any additional comments you are able to submit testimony in advance in a number of ways. Please note, all forms of testimony hold the same weight. I'm writing in regards to the proposed Oasis Nightclub for the corner of Eagle and Ustick. I have been a resident of Meridian for 8 years with my wife and three daughters, myself being born and raised in northern Idaho. We live about 2 miles from the proposed site and we pass by that location several times a week. We have loved the awesome family feel that is present in Meridian and we feel that a nightclub on a super busy intersection close to residential areas is not conducive to that continued family oriented mission for the City of Meridian. I am concerned with several things for that proposed business, but will only list a few here. The traffic is bad in the city on most, if not all days. I live close to McMillan and Meridian roads, and they are backed up from about 3:30pm until 7pm or later on weekdays. That is the same for all major intersections from Boise to Ada County. I frequently travel to schools all over the valley as a sports official and I see it everywhere I go. The nightclub saying that their business will not have a negative impact on the surrounding streets is not valid. Using all the available parking, plus forcing any overflow across the street is not responsible either. I find it hard to believe that the planning and police have agreed to this. The other business slated for that location are not going to all be closed by the time the nightclub opens either, thus stealing parking for those trying to visit the other businesses. One such business is an urgent care. Imagine that you needed some urgent care and then couldn't find a parking spot and hard to park across a busy street and then walk across that busy street to get some urgent care. The other businesses proposed for that location are more in line with the spirit of Meridian and it's friendly family atmosphere. Having a reduced fee for women and telling them to wear as little as possible seems to go against any moral standard that exists. Especially with everything happening around the #MeToo and all the damage from that, just to list one movement. We need to protect our women and children, not objectify them! I doubt that the police will be testing everyone as the get behind the wheel as well, since drinking and driving is illegal. That would be an insurmountable task for one day, let alone every single day. I already feel that the police don't do enough because there aren't enough of them to make a difference. We can't keep stretching them thin either! Having these inebriated people heading back to their homes or wherever will likely lead to an increase in accidents, which could lead to more deaths, domestic violence, vandalism and other crimes. What if they wander into a neighboring community surrounding the business and cause damage of some sort as well! Then, those that live in that community will want to leave rather than deal with it and the home values will drop and the friendly and family nature of Meridian drops with it. I have read their proposal and everything about it just screams no! They removed the term "nightclub" from the sign but kept in on the advertising and other communications? They are just trying to hide the truth of what it really is: a nightclub!
