Dear City Council,
Please know the Freidenberger family is against this or any night club being put in our neighborhood. We live in a
residential neighborhood next to where this establishment would like to be built. We agree with the following
statement.
In the narrative submitted to the city, there was an impassioned emotional plea
for the applicant having a connection to Meridian, yet neither the applicant nor
the owner of this nightclub live anywhere near us. The applicant lives by the
Boise Costco and the owner of the property lives in Utah. They remain
unaffected by the negative impact this nightclub would have on our community,
particularly the reduction in our property values. It only takes a simple look into
Las Vegas to see that establishments like this bring the slums to the adjoining
properties and push out the middle class. Your family and mine are the residents
who live here and have to deal with the consequences of living next to a
nightclub should it be approved. In his application he is trying to change the
meaning of the word “nightclub” to equal that of a social club like the VillaSport
business also going in on that corner. He is attempting to frame “alcohol” as a
victim and not responsible for what people do with it as inebriated drivers affect
real lives and real property. His agenda is clearly to secure the best location in
Idaho, not having the best interests of our community as his concern.
We object to the considerable traffic it will add to the Ustick Road/Eagle Road
intersection and in our neighborhoods. Unbelievably, there is no traffic impact
study required for this application even though it is located on the busiest street
in the entire state of Idaho, and only 1 mile from the busiest intersection in
Idaho. The nightclub’s PLAN is to route traffic through the neighborhood nearby,
and to allow traffic to back up on Ustick road to prevent gridlock in their wholly
inadequate parking lot. The Oasis is planning for a maximum of 1,000 patrons,
yet there are less than 125 parking spaces for ALL the businesses in this
complex. We can count on their clientele to be using our neighborhood streets
as their parking lot – just as happens to the neighborhoods in downtown Boise.
With operating hours up to 2am, and inebriated patrons driving through our
streets, this poses a significant problem for the safety and tranquility of our
community. This puts more pressure on us as community members to voice our
objections and prevent this nightclub from being built in our neighborhood. We
already deal with middle of the night drag racing down both Locust Grove and
1
Ustick Road. And we have already had a speeding drunk driver crash at the
school in the middle of the day knocking out the power to our neighborhood and
burning the nearby tree. With the increase of an inebriated clientele in our
neighborhood we will also have to deal with loitering patrons who have been
removed from the nightclub/bar that has closed at 1am/2am (weekday/weekends)
and the disturbance of the peace they make as they talk loud and boisterously at
their vehicles, shut car doors and drive away. This is in addition to the trash, the
nightly threat of vandalism, and the nightly threat of damage to our vehicles and
personal property. This significant threat impacts us all if allowed to be built at
this location.
We proposed to the city that an establishment like this belongs in an industrial
complex, not in our neighborhoods and suggested it be placed near the freeway,
closer to hotels and other businesses as is befitting a nightclub who brings in
entertainment acts from out of state. Its proposed location is not a good fit for
our community, nor will a nightclub improve safety for our children, the quality
of our schools, or our community at large.
The applicant admittedly is getting help from out of state club and barn owners.
The application is written in such a way that it is trying to paint it in a pretty light
and adding value to our community and neighborhoods. He is putting words into
your mouth, and if you disagree, please speak up. We only have this one chance
before a decision is made and we have to live with the consequences. As a
highly residential area, the interests of the invested community members who
have established their lives and families here should take top priority.
Sincerely George, Kimberly and three teenage daughters.
Please let us know what we can do to keep this establishment and others like it from cankering our neighborhood and
community.
