Here's what they had to say: Request for Mayor and Council: Name: Melissa Romero _replyto: funkygirl627@hotmail.com Street Address: 9244 W Stirrup Dr City: Boise State: ID 2 Zip Code: 83709 Subject: Message: Dear Honorable Mayor Simison and Members of the City Council, I'm contacting you to express my strong objection to the Oasis Nightclub proposed to be built at the southwest corner of Ustick and Eagle. This location is misaligned with the family-friendly businesses within the local vicinity, will result in increased fatalities do to alcohol-related traffic incidents and DUIs, will increase sexual violence and assualt among local female residents, and doesn't align with Meridian's stated values of being a "premier community in which to live, work, and raise a family." Proximity to Residential Neighborhoods and Family-Friendly Businesses I live as a Boise resident, that frequents this area often. (Every week at least 2 to 3 times per week) My sons school is near this area as well as close friends. The increased traffic congestion and certain drunk driving and DUI offenses that will frequent those exact crossroads of these family-friendly businesses poses potentially fatal risk to residential walkers, particularly the school-aged children. This type of establishment belongs in an environment made up of businesses that more commonly serve late-night hours, not in a primarily residential area of town within a 1 mile radius of multiple churches, 7 elementary schools, and many city parks that service families with young children. It is alarming that a nightclub would be allowed in this particular location that poses such a threat to the safety of our most vulnerable demographic. As a boise resident, I stand with my Meridian neighbors. I have always appreciated your city's stated values of being a "premier community in which to live, work, and raise a family." I do not believe the Oasis Nightclub supports that mission. I am asking the City Council to use their authority to protect the integrity of that mission and the safety of your’s and mine community. I respectfully ask that the Planning & Zoning Commission deny The Oasis’ Conditional Use Permit application and subsequently urge the City Council to deny it should a review be requested.
