Hi!
My name is Dakota and I have been raised in Meridian since 2006. I have attended elementary, middle and high school
here. I have worked in multiple places around the city as well. There are so many things I love about Idaho.
1
Lately, I have been working at the Trader Joe's at Ustick and Eagle. I (along with many others) have been very excited to
see Meridian growing and attaining special places like Trader Joes, the Boise Co-op, Costco, and the various new
food/leisure locations. Meridian is clearly growing exponentially and I, personally, am very excited about that.
Meridian is definitely a very family-oriented place but, being in constant contact with its residents, that's not completely
the case. There is a very wide variety of people who now call Meridian home. As the diversity in people grows, so does
the culture of the city. It's inevitable to have more perspectives and lifestyles as the population of a certain region
increases. Since the Treasure Valley has been fairly calm for a number of years, this shift in ambiance should be
embraced.
The Oasis is and can become a huge landmark for the city. Meridian has kept its charm but seems to have been trailing
behind in development. The addition of this complex would be an amazing way to surpass the stigma and give the city a
boost in attraction. There are more than enough arguments that people can muster up to show the negativity behind
this decision. However, Meridian is not a city that would just give in.
Threats of crime or unsavory changes in culture shouldn't be anything Meridian residents need worry about. Meridian
always does an amazing job at keeping its streets clean, both literally and figuratively. I have continuously been
impressed with Meridian's upkeep, maintenance and responsiveness.
Under these standards, The Oasis Meridian would be an incredible addition to the city by supporting all of its residents
(for or against) in complementing the city's other attractions (The Village, soon-to-be Orchard Park, developments in
downtown Meridian) without sullying the quality of life. The Oasis promotes creativity, integration and heart.
I fully believe that neither the city nor this project will allow for degradation of life as we know it here. The Oasis
Meridian would be the ideal outcome of Meridian's "build for business" and "design for living".
I am in support of H-2021-0004 and, as a long-time resident, would love to see this project come to life!
Thank you for your time!

Dakota,
Thank you for your email and wonderful perspective on our community. I truly appreciate you taking time to share your
thoughts and comments.
Because this project is part of an open application, myself and City Council members are prohibited from commenting
outside the public hearing. We take public feedback seriously and want you to know that I have received your email and
have read your comments.
A public hearing before the City of Meridian Planning & Zoning Commission will be held on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at
6:00pm. The Planning and Zoning Commission will make the decision on this project unless their ruling is appealed. If
that occurs it would then be heard by the City Council. While I do not have a vote unless there is a tie, any comments
regarding the project should be reserved for that public process.
Your email and my response will be included in the public record. The City Clerk has the project file available online for
review: The Oasis CUP H-2021-0004. Prior to the public hearing anyone is able to review the application materials at any
time as well as submit testimony. If you have any additional comments you are able to submit testimony in advance in a
number of ways. Please note, all forms of testimony hold the same weight. Written testimony may be submitted by
email to cityclerk@meridiancity.org or by text message by texting “Comment” to 31996. Video testimony can be
recorded in advance and sent by email to cityclerk@meridiancity.org. Comments can also be left by voicemail. Please
call (208) 288-5607 to record your voice testimony. For additional information associated with this application please
contact the City of Meridian Planner Joseph Dodson at 208-884-5533.
Thank you again for sharing your comments.
Respectfully,
Mayor Robert Simison
City of Meridian
