Nick,
Thank you for your email. I appreciate you taking time to share your thoughts and comments.
Because this project is part of an open application, myself and City Council members are prohibited from commenting
outside the public hearing. We take public feedback seriously and want you to know that I have received your email and
have read your comments.
A public hearing before the City of Meridian Planning & Zoning Commission will be held on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at
6:00pm. The Planning and Zoning Commission will make the decision on this project unless their ruling is appealed. If
that occurs it would then be heard by the City Council. While I do not have a vote unless there is a tie, any comments
regarding the project should be reserved for that public process.
Your email and my response will be included in the public record. The City Clerk has the project file available online for
review: The Oasis CUP H-2021-0004. Prior to the public hearing anyone is able to review the application materials at any
time as well as submit testimony. If you have any additional comments you are able to submit testimony in advance in a
number of ways. Please note, all forms of testimony hold the same weight. Written testimony may be submitted by
email to cityclerk@meridiancity.org or by text message by texting “Comment” to 31996. Video testimony can be
recorded in advance and sent by email to cityclerk@meridiancity.org. Comments can also be left by voicemail. Please
call (208) 288-5607 to record your voice testimony. For additional information associated with this application please
contact the City of Meridian Planner Joseph Dodson at 208-884-5533.
Thank you again for sharing your comments.
Respectfully,
Mayor Robert Simison
City of Meridian

Dear city officials,
We are very concerned about the proposed Oasis Nightclub to be built on the southwest corner of Eagle and Ustick. First, Eagle Rd is
the busiest road in the state of Idaho, and the last thing we need is drunk drivers on this road. From 2014 to 2018, Eagle and Ustick
intersection was the 2nd most frequent intersection crash site in the city of Meridian (190 crashes, 42 injuries), with the 1st most
frequent intersection crash site being Eagle and Fairview, less than one mile away from the proposed nightclub location. (277 crashes,
59 injuries). The population has increased significantly since this data was taken, causing more traffic and potential danger at these
intersections. Nightclubs increase traffic in an already overcrowded area, causing congestion and parking issues. Increased traffic will
result in reduced accessibility entering/exiting surrounding neighborhoods, increased risk of drunk driving, and greater risk of potentially
deadly accidents in this area.
Second, nightclubs negatively impact comfort, convenience, and safety. There are 3 elementary schools within a 1 mile radius of the
proposed nightclub site. Children will no longer be able to freely travel within our neighborhoods safely. In addition, due to the open bar
activities, crowds and taxis/Uber drivers clogging up the streets, emergency vehicles such as police and ambulance will have longer
time responding to emergency cases.
In addition, nightclubs bring noise, litter, vandalism, and crime, and decrease property value. Nightlife activity destroys the quality of life
and property values in the neighborhoods due to the excessive noise, loud drunk people, honking horns, and loud music. Additionally,
nightclubs are hotspots for violence. In the last few months, there have been multiple deaths occurring in the neighborhoods of
nightclubs in California, Texas, Florida, Washington, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Arizona. Nightclubs DO NOT BELONG in residential
areas, they belong downtown in industrial complexes closer to hotels and other nightlife. Its proposed location is a threat to our
community, and the people of Meridian deserve better than this. As city officials, you have been appointed to be a voice for the people
of Meridian. Please do your city residents justice and consider the negative implications of the Oasis Nightclub being placed in a
residential area. We request that the city deny the application and any subsequent requested reviews.
Thank you,
Nick Davis
