Dear Meridian City Council,
I would like to state my objection to adding 66 more apartments to the Movado Mixed Use land on Overland.
It said in the proposal under the Movado Master Plan section that there was a previous attempt to increase the number of units from 112 to
208, but that they withdrew their application. It also says that the comments regarding this were “generally positive.” I think this is referring to
the 2019 attempt. I am curious if this is true because it seemed like it has been well documented that a higher density of family dwelling is not
recommended by either the residents or city officials. There was also an attempt in 2016 that was equally unwanted.
In 2019, I asked the city council to please accept Chief Lavey’s recommendation to not make what is currently a mess, “worse” by increasing
the density at the Overland Movado intersection.
I beseech you again to leave the zoning as it was when we purchased our home in good faith and do not allow a greater concentration of family
dwellings.
As a long term resident, I understand and am also adversely affected (through friends family members) by the housing crisis, but rental units
such as these are not going to help the community maintain the same level of desirability that has brought such a great number of people to
move here. It is affordable homes where people can take pride in ownership, not a greater concentration of rentals.
A desirable city also has a city council who does not allow a neighborhood to be master planned and then, once it is established, permit the
zoning to be changed so that the desirability and accessibility are damaged for the profit of the developer and to the detriment of the residents.
Thank you for your time,
Hilarey Johnson
