Good morning,
I am writing on behalf of proposal MDA H-2020-0123.
My family and I live in the Movado Estates neighborhood and have since 2019. We are vehemently against building any
additional apartments/townhomes/condominiums/etc. on the corners of Overland and Movado. This is not the first
time that we have had to fight as a neighborhood for what we all were promised when we purchased our homes. And
we should not have to continue to do so, but instead, expect to see the conveniences of commercial businesses on those
corners, in order to assist in making our lives easier. It is in large part, why so many of us bought in the Movado
neighborhood to begin with and
Our home backs up onto the common area in Movado Estates. In the last year, we have seen dozens and dozens of
families outside our neighborhoods come into our common area, set up volleyball nets, soccer training, picnics, family
gatherings, etc. – preventing those of us who actually live in the neighborhood from using our own area. In addition, we
have seen dog excrement left by these families on our grassy area and our playground, exposing our children to it. On
occasion, neighbors have followed them out and we find that many of these visitors live in the apartments recently built
on Overland, just west of Movado.
At night, we often see teenagers from out of the area pull up in their vehicles and gather in our playground area, doing
things that “they shouldn’t”, drinking, and making all the dogs in our area upset and begin barking – often while we are
all trying to sleep.
Bringing additional apartment/townhome/condominium dwellers will only increase an already difficult problem that is
still in its infancy. We will also see even more congested traffic as we all try to exit Movado onto Overland. This has
proven to be a dangerous situation repeatedly as cars travel very quickly – and getting out often requires risky attempts
to make it to the middle lane. Adding all these additional living opportunities will only exponentially make that worse.
In addition:
Multifamily apartments lower the value of single-family homes in our neighborhood
People who live in apartments are less desirable neighbors and more likely to engage in crime or other anti-
social behavior
Apartments overburden schools, produce less revenue for local governments, and require more infrastructure
support
Higher-density housing creates traffic congestion and parking problems
We do not want more traffic. We do not want lower property values. We do not want more children crowding the
schools. We do not want a changed community character for our neighborhood. We do not want increased crime and
less availability of the amenities, e.g. our grassy common area, that we pay for and chose our homes for when we
purchased them.
1
We completely believe that the proposed apartment project will worsen our existing lifestyle, property value and
neighborhood safety.
We are against this project completely.
Thank you,
Tara and Rick DeAguiar
