I watched the meeting today and while I wasn’t prepared to speak, I do want to voice my opinion.
As a woman and a UTV owner, I need to take my UTV the one mile to the gas station as I cannot hold the 5 gal
gas can in order to fill my UTV. I am a 54 year old single woman, and if you pass this ordinance, I will no longer
be allowed to ride my UTV. I moved here from another state, for that freedom in particular, and this has
saddened me beyond belief.
I have lived in Meridian for 4 years. In that time, I have witnessed an ATV only a handful of times as they were
graciously (and at their own expense) clearing our sidewalks of snow. I’ve NEVER seen one on the road. As for
UTV’s, I’ve seen them on the road less than 4 times. They have always been driven appropriately and
following the laws of the roads.
It seems to me that this new ordinance is being written by people who don’t like or understand ATV/UTV/Golf
Carts, and because they don’t like them, they want them banned. If this is how this city operates, then I’m
going to suggest that we start banning a whole host of things that I don’t like. I would prefer that Meridian be
an inclusive place that makes room for all hobbies.
Lastly, the gentleman that spoke about UTV’s being unsafe, was completely misleading you. Those statistics
that he read included off road accidents. Please ask him to give you ONLY the data that applies to accidents
on county roads and streets. Of COURSE, they are dangerous when driven at 50 mph off road by 22 year old
hot rod who sails over a dirt jump. You CANNOT use that in the stats of UTV’s actually on the road. Please ask
him to provide the correct information.
Thank you for your time,

5 years from now, when you wonder how Idaho became California, let me be the first to tell you THIS is how. I
don't see a huge problem, as a fact, I rarely see off road vehicles on city streets. I do see people maintaining
their vehicles and working on them and testing them in neighborhoods, which is necessary and still allowed
under this new ordinance. So my question is, why is this ordinance being passed? UTV's are no different than
smart cars, or other small vehicles. This is absurd.
