Operational Statement for:
Gerald Mele Firearms
History
Gerald Mele Firearms has been in business since 1994 while being located in Fresno,
California. The owner, Mr. Gerald A. Mele, has successful operated this business in
accordance with all State and Federal Requirements. Much of the business has
involved collectable firearms for individuals or helping non-profits purchase guns for
fund-raising raffles. The Home Occupations Accessory Use permit is required to
transfer the Federal Firearms License from California to Meridian, Idaho.
Proposed Home Occupation Accessory Use
With the growth of the internet, Mr. Mele’s business has transitioned to almost 100%
internet business or direct sales of ammunition and other related sporting goods. Much
of the business will be conducted on-line, buying and selling used firearms.
Additionally, Mr. Mele may receive firearms purchased by individuals (from others)
though the internet and will receive the firearm and do the necessary background
check. At this time or when firearms are to be sold to local customers, purchasers will
come to the residence for the required background checks. Transactions will be
conducted in the designated office within the residence. Based on the current volume of
sales we anticipate this to be one to three times per month, by appointment only. Any
visits will be between the hours of 8 am and 8 pm. The office occupies one room of the
residence. The size of the office is approximately 3% of the total square footage of the
residence. There will be no retail display of merchandise.
There will typically not be any outgoing packages picked up from the residence.
Shipping will be done by UPS. As UPS typically will not pickup firearms from a
residence, shipments from Gerald Mele Firearms will be done by Mr. Mele delivering the
packages directly to UPS customer centers in Boise or Nampa. Other goods leaving
will likely be brought to any UPS/packaging store. Packages may be received at the
residence.
Because of the nature of the firearms business and Mr. Mele’s own collection, there will
be no signs on the property. The property has cameras at all of the entrances and a
monitored alarm system.
The proposed use will not emit light, noise, fumes, dust, smoke, odors, vibrations or
electrical interference outside the building.
There are no plans for any employees.
There are 3 parking positions available in the driveway.

Additional Information:
This business is a secondary source of income for Mr. Mele. At this time, Mr. Mele’s
main source of income is currently from his Engineering and Architectural firm with the
main office located in Fresno, CA, with employees in California, Idaho and Alabama.
Mr. Mr. Works from his office located with the residence. This business will eventually
be a supplemental source of income when Mr. Mele retires form the Consulting
Engineering firm.
