Smooth O poration - Procise Control. These high performance control
valves provide smooth performance and precise control. Each siack in rhe
six spool valve is designed to control a pafticular function. Fine metering
characterislics and fingertip positioning afford high operating etliciency,
less strain on the operator and the equipment. Easy access to all controls
saves operator time and effo(, increases productivrty. You can reach the
lractor controls from the backhoe seat to adjust the rhrotile or slraighten the
wheels. Or lower the stabilizers from the lractor sear while applyjng
the brakes.
Two Position 4-Bar Linkage. Two positron 4,bar lrnkage provides 150'
bucket rotation and up to 8,830 lbs. digging force (1. E. M.C. specifications).
This versatile linkage allows the operalor to select the optimum combination
of rotalion and diggrng force for straighl wall digging, power digging or
truck loading- Rugged, box construction ot boom, dipper and slabilizers
provides high lorsional strength and rigidity. Boom cylinde|s hydraulically
cushioned for smoother operation and protection against high shock loads.
High Torque Constant Velocity Swing Cylinder. Efficient rolary swing
cylinder wilh internal flow conlrol provides 70,000 in. lbs. torque at constant
velocity, even when swinging uphill Unique mounling prevents backlash or
freeplay and allows precise posilioning throughout the 180'operating arc.
Cylinder is removable for service without disturbing the digging compo-
nents. Lifelime lubricaled swing assembly allows maintenance-lree
operation.

The deluxe M F232 offers the same high
speed and versatility as the MF222 and,
in addition, digs flush alongside walls,
fences or buildrngs You can operate it at
any position along the T2" hotizontal

loosen four bolts, hydraslide the entrre
digging assembly to the desired position,
and retighten the bolts. lt's a feature
you'll find invaluable in places where
space is limrted and boom posrtion criti-
cal. MF232 has reinlorced welded box
booms of high strength alloy steel. The
three digging depth combinations (13 ,
14'and 15') can be job-matched to your
panicular operation. Shock-absorbing
hydraulic cushioning assures smoother,
trouble-free operation. You'll find this
backhoe a real time saver in tight spots

MF222lMF232 Backhoes
They dig deeper-

Size for size, MF's new 222/232
Backhoes are the most productive
you'll find on any construction site.
These versatile machines perlorm
efficiently in any iob situation, from
offset digging alongside buildings
or curbs, to general lixed-position
work. A choice o, three digging
depth combinations let you dig
down l3', 14', ot 15' . . . reach out
1 7'3 " from the swing pivot . . . load
up 9'3 " with either machine. Hydra-
slide M F232 permits horizontal posi-
tioning of the digging components
anywhere along the 72" l?me.
Cente/-mount MF222 has excellent
weight balance ,or all-round, high
speed digging and trenching. Both
these rugged machines feature box
construction of high strength alloy
steel. Big boom and crowd cylinders
provide the force you need for in-
stant peneration of hard surface
material or frozen ground. High
quality cylinders are honed to a
super Iine finish, rods are hardened,
ground and duplex chrome plated
for extra long life. Shock-absorbing
hydraulic cushioning prevents da-
mage at the extremes of the 180'
swing. And the boom drop is also
hydraulically cushioned lor greater
smoothness. You'll appreciate the
maintenance-free, lifetime-lubri -
cated swing assembly. And the easy,
control access from either tractor or
backhoe seat (there's an optional
single cab and combination seat
that serves both). Perhaps most of
all you'll appreciate the competitive
price. But maybe we're wrong, and
you'll buy it simply because you like
it. ls there a better reason ?

TYPE OF JOB
The Case 580 Construction King is a rugged, heavy-duty
all-purpose unit designed to outperform and outproduce all
others in its class. It is a quality-built machine that will
give you years of dependable performance at minimum
maintenance and repair expense.
Tractor is powered by an economical, long life, Case-built
52 hp gasoline or diesel engine. Two transmission options
are available: 4-speed forward and reverse with full power
shuttle and torque converter or 8-speed synchronized shuttle
with direct drive.
Torque converter multiplies tractor push-pull capabilities
to more than twice its standard rating. Four-range, sliding
gear transmission extends the converter's ability to handle
loads smoothly and efficiently. There's speed and power un-
equalled in this size machine. Reverse is 20Vo laster than
forward speed to cut non-productive backup time. Full
power shuttle lets you travel forward or reverse simply by
moving a hand lever. No manual clutching. Full power
clutches automatically coordinate engine and transmission
speed for smooth direction changes.
Direct drive transmission matches speed to individual job
needs and features a ferrometallic clutch lining (except Fork
Lift), which outlasts ordinary, heavy-duty automotive type
Iinings by as much as 8 to 1. Reverse is 25Vo iaster than
forward in each speed range.
Hydraulic system is exceptionally fast and responsive. Gear-
driven hydraulic pump generates 2200 psi to feed big,
double-acting loader or backhoe cylinders. The result is

The 580 Construction King is designed from the bottom up
for your comfort, convenience and ease of operation. Deck is
wide and roomy. You sit on a super comfort, deep-cushioned
seat complete with backrest. There's exceptional visibility in
all directions. Nearly flat deck plus automotive-type, sus-
pended brake and clutch pedals provide ample room for the
long-legged man. Full instrumentation - including direct-
read hour meter and electrical fuel gauge - take the
guesswork out of checking critical details. Hand throttle is
with.in easy reach of backhoe operating posilion. No need to
dismounl lractor if you wish to pour on more engine power.

sto at the head of itc class
Try this combination and you'll agree: nothing can
match itl Torque converter lets you take on jobs
and work under conditions that stop clutch-and-
shift outfits cold. It automatically matches speed
and power to load requirements. Your engine never
lugs down. You don't keep clutching and shifting
to maintain efficiency. Torque converter saves wear
and tear on the tractor by cushioning shock loads
to prevent costly damage to the power train. You
can apply just the right amount of power. Ideal
when working over soft ground or on hillsides. Full
power shuttle brings greater efficiency and more
production to every type of operation. Convenient-
ly located hand lever instantly moves you forward
or reverse without manual clutch. Here are direc-
tion changes as smooth and effortless as in your
lamily car - operating ease, efficiency and produc-
tion the likes oI which are only available on larger
and costlier machines.

tractor engine. That's what you get with either
of these rugged, big bore, long stroke Case-built
units. Gasoline engine is a 4-cylinder performer
which starts easily, accelerates fast and supplies
plenty of reserve power for handling the biggest
loads. Maximum torque at low engine rpm as-
sures long life with minimum downtime. Diesel
engine gives you exceptional lugging power and
economy. Fuel is injected directly into toroidal-
shaped combustion chamber in four fine sprays
for complete mixing and instant burning. The
result is record setting economy and power from
every drop of fuel. Both engines feature internal
and extemal block ribbing for strength and
rigidity. Other high performance, low mainte-
nance features include aluminum pistons, wet-
type cylinder sleeves for uniform temperature
control and pressure lubrication with full-
fiItered oil.

alter dumping - up to 8'7y2" clearance allows you to back

For big production loading nothing beats 580 Construction
King power shuttle and torque converter. You smoothly
crowd the pile, calling up just the right amount of push to
ram home deep, pry out heaping buckets of the most compact
materials. There's no shifting, no engine lug down, no wheel
slippage to cut your efficiency. With power shuttle you
change direction quickly. It eliminates clutching. Speeds
cycles.
Tractor and loader are Case designed and built as an integral
unit specifically for production loading. Loader mainlrame is
high strength alloy steel formed and welded to resist twist
and shock. Rigid loader arms are cut and welded into box
sections, reinforced for the greatest possible strength.

Here is one of the fastest, hardest working, most productive
loaders you can own. It has the size, power and mobility to
handle loading jobs normally assigned to larger units. It
incorporates all the principles of advanced design and engi-
neering that mean more cycles per hour, more yards of
material moved per day.
Here is 7400 lbs. of breakout force at the cutting edge s,ith
backhoe attached, or 6200 lbs. with counterweight. You get
heaped payloads even where the going's roughest! Now roll
the bucket back 40" to keep that load. Lift to nearly lf in
just seconds. Over two feet ol reach at full lift lets you spot
loads right where you want them. Exclusive power linkage
design cylinders provide high-speed dump and knockout
action. A 45' dump angle against solid knockout blocks
loosens sticky loads, assures you a clean bucket for the start
of every pass. And there's seldom need to roll the bucket up

Single Lever Loader Control. Lets you coordinate crowd, lift and roll'
back for capacity-packed buckets in less time. Cycles are faster
from dig to dump, Your operating job is much easier.
Equipped with Drott 4-in-1@ bucket, the 580 Construction
King will take on a whole new range of jobs that normally
would require the use of highly specialized equipment.
The Drott 4-in-1 is a rugged, 15 cu. ft. two-piece bucket
that adjusLs hydraulically from the operator's seat. It func-
tions as a clam or grapple, seizing logs, pipe, boulders,
prying out stumps or old concrete. Raise the bucket's front
jaw, and you have a dozer for blading, leveling or accurate-
ly stripping sod, top soil or clay. Partially lower the front
jaw for a scraper that tilts back to carry a heaped load and
spreads materials to any depth. The Drott 4-in-1 loads
conventionally or can bottom dump for an extra 2' dump
clearance if you need it.
Exclusive Hydra-Levelingo Loader. Cylinder mounted on right side of loader
and linked to hydraulic system automatically keeps bucket level from ground
line to full lift. You're free to concentrate on maneuvering and dumping.
Add to this up to 6200 lbs. breakout, 3800 lbs. lift capacity
to full height, Hydraleveling plus 40' bucket rollback and
the result is a combination geared to maximum efficiency
and super productivity on the widest range of jobs.
A host of other equipment is available for the 580 Construc-
tion King Loader: 141/2' backhoe,l6 /2' Extendahoe or Side
Shift backhoe for trenching and excavating. (See pages 10-
13.) There's 3-point hitch and exclusive Draft-o-matic
control for landscaping, plowing, mowing and tillage jobs.
(See pages 14-15.) You can get log forks, bulldozer blade,
snow plow, rotary and side-mounted mowers, sweepers plus
still more. (See page t6.)

40" Bucket Rollback. There's exceptional buck'
et rollback with the 580 Construction King.
This is because of the exclusive power linkage
design, which places maximum hydraulic
power at the large end of lift and dump cylin-
ders while dump and knockout action come
from the faster rod end of the cylinder. Power
linkage also provides superior angle for grad-
ing and leveling. Bucket rolls forward up to
110". While grading, cylinders are fully retract-
ed. Minimum stress on cylinders and linkage.

Case has led the way in the design of modern
backhoes. Now it introduces a boom and dipper
stick with 10 times the lateral strength over con-
ventional backhoes. Both boom and dipper are
of heavy steel, closed box design with heavy cast
weldments at critical bearing points. Heavy steel
castings close the box at both ends.
Here is unsurpassed ruggedness for absorbing
high-stress torsional loads when you slam into
trench walls, knock down piles or shove boulders
out of the way. Here is maximum life, leverage and
strength to take steady production backhoe work
day after day.
Big 4" boom and dipper hydraulic cylinders gener-
ate tremendous digging, lifting and crowding pow-
er. Ample capacity to lift and spot big inch pipe.
The 580 Construction King backhoe is designed
with the operator in mind. You sit up high and in
the open for an unobstructed view of your excavat-
ing job. Tower is uncluttered for easy mounting
or dismounting. Controls are right where you want
them and easy to manipulate for fast operation
all day long.

While the Case 741/z' backhoe will handle the majority ol all
your trenching-excavating jobs, the 16/2' Extendahoe has
been developed for extra dig depth and extra reach.
Extendahoe digs effrciently in tbe 14r/z' position or extends
to the 16t/2'position. In the 16y2'position you reach to cover
19' of work area, load to a height of nearly 11/2'. This means
digging more trench per day because fewer moves are neces-
sary. Less chance of cave-ins: dumps farther from the hole.
The 76r/z' Extendahoe incorporates all the outstanding fea-
tures of the l4l2' l:ackhoe, including new boom and dipper
stick design, 190' swing, noJag hydraulics for super perform-
ance and production. Extending or retracting the dipper is
accompiished in minutes.
Both 14r/z' backhoe and 16r/2' Extendahoe are highly mobile

A true load..i" tractor in every respect-first of itsv
kind in the 50-60 hp, 1-yd. cap. size rar,ge. True
unit frame construction provides a massive, one-
piece, all-welded, steel plate structure that mounts
the loader and 10,000-lb. capacity front axle . . .
protects the engine and power train against all
direct shocks and stresses of loading.
You get a choice ol high-torque, easy-running 58
hp gas or diesel engines. You get big capacity hy-
draulics-maximum 29 gpm pump capacity for
sp€ed, 2,000 psi for power. It pays ofr in 6,500 lb.
breakour and 4,000-lb. lift capacities.
And, to take maximum advantage of true loader
design you get: a standard transmission rvith five
speeds Iorward, one reverse . . . hydrostatic power
steering . . . and automatic, hydraulic bucket level-
ing. Or, there's the optional Forward and Reverse
Drive. It provides a five speeds forward, five re-
verse with the latter apptox.22Va faster than the
corresponding forward speeds. It lets the operator
change tractor direction on each speed with min!
mum eflort in minimum time.
