To: Whom It May Concern (City of Meridian Transportation Commission)
Regarding: proposed UTV ordinance
It has come to our attention that the city of Meridian has laid forth a
proposal to change the ways in which its citizens are able to operate their UTV's
within the city. According to what has been put into this proposal, it appears that
a new city ordinance has been brought to the transportation commission to limit
golf carts outside of golf-course communities. Somehow, UTV's were unfairly
brought into this new ordinance as well. We shouldn't have to state the obvious,
but UTV's are anything but golf carts. There is a large difference when it comes to
safety, speed and other automobile-type features, which most UTV's have. All of
which are street legal in the state of Idaho, with the exception of most interstates
and highways.
With that being said, we strongly oppose this ordinance. The state of Idaho
makes it clear as to what we are legally allowed to do on the roads in this state.
UTV owners all know these laws and abide by them carefully. We enjoy the
freedom of being able to grocery shop, plow for our neighbors in the winter or go
to the auto supply store in our UTV's. It's part of what makes this area great.
Please rethink this proposal. It simply make no sense.
Sincerely,
Jon Spencer, UTV owner
Meridian, ID
