Re Sub Div H-2020-0100 Southwest corner of Victory & Locust Grove
City Clerk,
This homeowner is commenting on the development, as well as the most recent notice
received concerning the modification sought by the affiant(property owner). I could not ascertain the
date of the Request/Submission(maybe Petition?).
Where annexation hurts the existing City, the benefits must outweigh any detriment. It is a
well-known fact annexation and re-zoning to increase higher densities to the City of Meridian will not
serve the existing population well. Services including water, sewer, irrigation, trash services, fire and
police protection are some but not all services which the City of Meridian will need to add to its
already stretched services. Traffic in the area is appalling and dangerous. Increasing density
proposals work against policy put in place and only intensifies the negative impacts.
As a homeowner of a wide range of property types, reducing set-backs is always a negative
impact. For all concerned-not just a property owner. Who enjoys having traffic, whether it be foot
or street traffic, immediately outside their doors/windows? No one. It is not safe or healthy.
Annexation should improve the quality of life. That is not the case here. Changing the
intersection at Victory and Locust Grove to a huge round-about that includes taking land from
existing homeowners, and away from agriculture use causes more sprawl and congestion, further
harms the environment and ultimately results in increased taxes for existing homeowners for
maintenance.
There is an increasing resentment that pits long-time Idahoan against new-comers to
Meridian. Those persons who have lived here their entire lives state emphatically that this explosive
growth not only ruins the community but has made it financially impossible to improve their own
position based upon the increases in the cost of living here. I am not happy the realtor I used did not
share these facts when I purchased here. It continues that quantity rules over quality in Meridian.
Finally, I understand that requests for annexation by the property owner must extend city
owned services. I do not see how that is possible. There are not sufficient services. The City is not
growing responsibly. Those employed and elected by the City need to decline the application.
Respectfully submitted,
