Subject:Rezoning
Dear City Council,
I am against the rezoning of the Southwest corner of Victory and Meridian Roads to R15 High Density. It is a bad idea for
the following reasons:
1. There are multiple school bus stops In Victory Road in which the students have to cross Victory Road to get onto the
bus. More traffic would make this very dangerous to kids who don’t always make the best choices when waiting for the
bus.
2. The intersection of Meridian Rd & Victory Rd has an accident almost weekly and more traffic would mean more
accidents.
3. The schools that would support all of these new students are already overcrowded with the other high density
housing. I have worked at Mary McPherson Elementary for a number of years and have personally seen the growth and
overcrowding that has taken place in that school. It is hard on the teachers and staff to effectively teach that many
students without the facilities to support the growth .
4. It has been nice to live half in the suburbs and half in the country. Watching the wildlife is still something we enjoy.
There are geese, ducks and falcons that live in that area that will again be displaced if that land is developed.
I’m sure that the high density housing will also lower the property values of the larger homes in the surrounding
neighborhoods. Why should we suffer after we have paid more for our homes and pay more taxes for Meridian and
have lived here longer. There is no transit services, food places, no shopping. Not a great place to put more housing.
Please consider my thoughts when making your decision to not allow this housing development to occur.
Thanks,
Shanna Gardiner
