The Prescott Ridge preliminary plat includes the 28.59 acre West Ada School District parcel located immediately east of the proposed subdivision. Because of improper subdivision of many parcels in this area in the past, including the parcel owned by West Ada, the joining of the West Ada parcel in this preliminary plat is necessary to make the West Ada parcel 'legal". We are also in support of the project because of the commitment of the developer to deliver utilities and road infrastructure from the southern boundary and north on Levi Ln to the West Ada west property boundary. Utility and road connectivity are critical to the future development of the school site. Joint School District No. 2 (dba West Ada School District) has experienced significant and sustained growth in student enrollment during the last ten years. Many of our schools throughout the district are operating at or above capacity. Based on U.S. census data, we can predict that these homes, when completed, will house 307(=# homes x 0.8 per census data) school aged children.Approval of the Prescott Ridge Development will affect enrollments at the following schools in West Ada District: Enrollment Capacity Miles Dev.to school Pleasant View Elementary Opening 20/21 650 2.4 School Year Star Middle School 704 1000 6.9 Meridian High School 1965 2400 6.1 Due to the abundant amount of growth in the area, West Ada is actively building new schools, and boundaries are always changing. These future students could potentially attend Owyhee High School. West Ada School District supports economic growth; however, growth fosters the need for additional school capacity. In order to meet the need for additional school capacity, West Ada School District will accept the donation of land appropriate for a school site. Passage of a bond issue will be required prior to the commencement of new school construction. 1303 E.Central Drive • Meridian, ID 83642 • P: (208)855-4500 • F: (208)350-5959 New residents cannot be assured of attending the neighborhood school as it may be necessary to bus students to available classrooms across the district. The safety of our students is our first and foremost priority. With this in mind, we ask that you encourage the developer to provide safe walkways, bike baths and pedestrian access for our students. School capacity and transportation is addressed in Idaho Code 67-6508 - future development will continue to have an impact on the district's capacity. i cerely, J e Yoc um Assistant Superintendent—Operations West Ada School District 1303 E.Central Drive • Meridian, ID 83642 P: (208)855-4500 • F: (208)350-5959
