Subject:July 28 Delano subdivision proposal
To Mayor Simison and the Meridian City Council,
The BollCook group’s application for the Delano project has been granted a rehearing on July 28. I was in attendance and
testified (via Zoom) at the May 12 City Council meeting when the application was originally denied. From reviewing that
evening’s discussion among the Mayor and Council, it would appear that your primary reason for denying the
application was that you felt there would not be enough ingress/egress for Delano if Dashwood was permanently closed
(as those of us from Alpine Pointe have been requesting for the last two years) before Centerpointe could be opened all
the way to Wainright. This particular objection was not brought up or discussed at the previous Meridian Planning and
Zoning Commission meetings nor during the applicant’s presentation and rebuttal on May 12. Neither the applicant nor
the Alpine Pointe neighbors had an opportunity to answer this objection before the Council took its vote.
The Delano development would have more than enough ingress/egress, even without Dashwood and Centerpointe
being fully open. I cannot stress this too much. Looking at a map of the neighborhood, we see that Delano would have
exactly the same ingress/egress routes as the previously approved Brickyard apartment complex, namely, through
Jasmine Lane to Eagle Road; through any of the four entrances to the shopping complex on the northwest corner of
Ustick and Eagle (two on Eagle and two on Ustick); and through Centerpointe out to Ustick, with a convenient and safe
traffic light that will allow traffic to go either east to Eagle Road or west to Locust Grove. This stretch of Centerpointe is
currently underutilized, as a road use survey would undoubtedly show. For the residents of the proposed BollCook
development to drive to the light on Centerpointe/Ustick would be no more arduous than my own drive from home at
the far end of Camas Creek to the light at Wainwright. If these ingress/egress points were adequate for the Brickyard
Apartments, they will have no problem handling the additional traffic from the BollCook infill project.
Once again, please do not sacrifice Dashwood for the sake of some undefined concept of connectivity. The proposed
development will have plenty of connectivity without ruining Dashwood.
Thank you.
Best Regards,
