RE: Horse Meadows Subdivision
Meridian Zoning Commission. gz
1 am writing to voice my opposition to rezoning for high density for the Horse Meadows Subdivision RZ,
PP H-2020-0060. My objection to the zoning change, is that it is a high-density development will
adversely impact the surrounding neighborhood. Black Cat road is already being adversely impacted by
the charter school that has opened this year and the traffic along Black Cat is becoming a safety concern.
During rush hour it is not uncommon to see traffic backed up from Cherry to the railroad tracks. (nearly
a quarter mile)To change the zoning of this property and allow high density housing adds even more
traffic, more danger, and a decreased quality of life for the existing property owners.
The developer is only concerned with making as much profit as possible and does not have any concern
for the impact this development will have on the existing area or the negative impact on the lives of the
people who currently live here.
The people who have purchased homes in this area did so with expectation that this area was going to
retain its current single-family zoning and housing density. The city has an obligation to existing
homeowners who have purchased their homes in good faith, and belief that the city would not pursue
zoning changes that were detrimental to their interests. To change the zoning in this manner, simply to
increase profits for developers, is contrary to the interests of hundreds of current property owners.
The practice of changing zoning to allow developers to build high density housing, for profit and leaving
the impacts of that development to be dealt with by taxpayers is reprehensible. The purpose of the
zoning, commission is to regulate zoning in a manner which provides the best planning and use of land to
benefit the citizens of the city. This zoning change in no way benefits the surrounding neighborhoods
and is in fact detrimental.
There is a place for high density housing, but that place is not in existing single-family zoned
neighborhoods where those developments are opposed by,and detrimental to,the existing home
owners.
Please do not allow the rezoning of the land in our neighborhood for high density housing
Sincerely
James Hardy
