Leah, Thank you for your email. As this issue you describe will likely come before the City Council and I as part of a public hearing, I—as well as Council—are not able to make comments regarding the land use issue outside of that process. I see you have copied our City Clerk to this email. Please know that your email and this response will be included as part of the record should this item move forward. Respectfully, Mayor Robert Simison City of Meridian All e-mail messages sent to or received by City of Meridian e-mail accounts are subject to the Idaho law, in regards to both release and retention, and may be released upon request, unless exempt from disclosure by law. 1 -----Original Message----- From: leah padilla <Ieahpl0@yahoo.com> Sent:Thursday,June 11, 2020 6:36 PM To: Robert Simison <rsimison@meridiancity.org>; citycouncil@meridian.org; Chris Johnson <cjohnson@meridiancity.org> Subject: Concerns regarding Building on land,Amity and Hillsdale. Hello, We are residents of Century Farm subdivision, and we are not able to attend the meeting tonight for this proposed land development. We would like to express our concerns for putting townhomes and apartments in this area. Our biggest concern is the stress that it is going to place on Hillsdale elementary, which is already at capacity. There are many families in Century Farm that are within walking distance to the school that have to bus their children outside of the subdivision because of overcrowding. Adding these townhomes and apartments will only add to that overcrowding and the frustration of children that live by the school not being able to walk to school. As of right now, there are no plans for building more schools which makes this an even more dire issues. Especially with the coronavirus and the social distancing and the possible need to limit the class sizes even more then they already do. My second concern is the amount of traffic that it will bring to this area that already sees a lot of traffic. Adding that many more people and cars without the road infrastructure to accommodate them is only going to lead to more road congestion, traffic accidents, and road rage. Part of the reason that most of us have chosen to live out here is to be a little further away from the heavily populated areas and traffic and this will just defeat the purpose of moving further out. Adding more people to this area will also put a strain on our first responders as they will have to be stretched even more thin then they already are. This also goes against Meridian's future land use of having more open spaces. I really hope you will take these things into consideration and not build these townhomes and apartments here in this area. Sincerely, Century Farm Residents Leah and Pete Amico 2
