Hillsdale Ave Amanda, Thank you for your email. As this issue you describe will likely come before the City Council and I as part of a public hearing, I – as well as Council – are not able to make comments regarding the land use issue outside of that process. I have copied our City Clerk to this email so that your email and this response can be included as part of the record should this item move forward. Respectfully, Mayor Robert Simison City of Meridian All e-mail messages sent to or received by City of Meridian e-mail accounts are subject to the Idaho law, in regards to both release and retention, and may be released upon request, unless exempt from disclosure by law. Hillsdale Ave Dear Mayor Simison, My name is Amanda Billingsley and I am a resident of the Century Farm neighborhood. I have recently received notice of Challenger Development’s preliminary plan for the corner of E. Amity Road and S. Hillsdale Ave. I am not able to attend the meeting tonight so I’m writing to express my concerns for building high density housing in this area. I am concerned about school overcrowding, incongruence with the Meridian City Future Land Use Map, and increased traffic. If the preliminary plan isn’t revised to address these concerns, all of these areas would be negatively impacted. Hillsdale Elementary is already over-capacity resulting in children that live within walking distance to the school being bused miles away to Silver Sage Elementary. Building a high density development will only add to the overcrowding and frustration of children that live by the school not being able to attend. The Meridian City Future Land Use Map has this area zoned as “low density” in keeping with the city’s goal to “ensure that Meridian is a premier place to live, work, and raise a family.” This proposed high density development is roughly 3 times the planned amount of residents on that parcel. Traffic is also a concern as Amity is a 2 lane road that is already congested. 1 Challenger Development has an opportunity here to develop something our community can truly be proud of. I hope that the plan ultimately accepted by the City will address these concerns to better create an evolving, livable, vibrant, and connected neighborhood in line with #MyMeridianVision.
