To the Mayor and City Council;
It is very frustrating that the issue of connecting the proposed new Delano subdivision into Alpine Point via N Dashwood
Place has now dragged on for over a year. This is a very simple and straightforward decision which should have been
made long ago, especially now that there is agreement between the developer and Alpine Point residents for there to be
an emergency access gate only – no through traffic.
N Dashwood Place was NEVER to be a connector, that is very obvious based on all historical data and planning. Meridian
P&Z Staff have it very wrong and have misapplied all prior decisions and current codes. The P&Z Staff recommendation
to make N Dashwood a full connector road in actuality turns it into a Collector Road open to all of the high density
development to the south of Alpine Point. This is not only unacceptable – it is wrong and illogical and does not follow
current ACHD or City of Meridian Codes. The traffic study conducted by the original Delano developer did not take into
consideration this high density development, which is even more dense and expanding since that study was conducted.
I want to remind the City Council that codes are not law, and P&Z Staff recommendations can be very wrong and ill-
formed for a variety of reasons. This recommendation is in fact ill-formed for a variety of reasons, not just one.
The opening of N Dashwood Place was to provide a single residence a driveway in case it was landlocked, not
provide a permanent road for heavy traffic.
N Dashwood Place was designated a cul d sac from the very beginning and never designated to be a through
way connector.
ACHD has now designated Center Point Way as the commercial collector road for the area so there is absolutely
no reason for the City to push N Dashwood to be open.
P&Z Staff have completely misinterpreted current codes to justify the opening of N Dashwood Place. This
ignores all prior planning and decisions upon which people had based their home purchase decisions. To go
back now and change these prior decisions devalues these homeowners and constitutes an illegal taking by the
City. Is the City ready to compensate these homeowners for this illegal taking?
This is a case where-in the City Council is authorized and empowered to make the right decision. That decision is to
make N Dashwood Place an emergency access only point into the proposed Delano subdivision.
Kind regards to all;
Tim
