HomeMy WebLinkAbout2020-05-07 Steve Hasselblad May 7, 2020 To the Honorable Robert Simison, Mayor, To the Members of the Meridian City Council, RE: Delano Project and its impact on Alpine Pointe neighborhood On May 121h the City Council will consider a proposed development to the south of Alpine Pointe Neighborhood. Planning and Zoning has approved this development with the caveat that the development's connection to Alpine Pointe Neighborhood via Dashwood Place be for foot and bicycle only for 10 years or until the Centerpointe Way is extended to Wainwright. As you can gather from the many letters, phone calls and testimonies that have been given at ACHD, P&Z and City Council meetings over the past year, the residents of Alpine Pointe overwhelmingly do not believe that motor vehicle access via Dashwood Place is appropriate at any time now or in the future. Letters and petitions have been submitted requesting that the Dashwood access be limited to foot and bicycle only in perpetuity. Previous letters and testimony give valid reasons for this stance so we will not repeat them now. What we would like the City Council to consider as they review this matter is this: Who does the City Council represent? Whose interests will you look out for as you reach a decision? What did the citizens of Meridian expect from their City Council when you were elected to your positions? Will our City Council consider the request of the nearly 600 residents of Alpine Pointe or will they acquiesce to the wishes of one developer that does not even live in Meridian? The ACHD members, Planning and Zoning members and City Council members have a vote on this issue. The nearly 600 residents of Alpine Pointe, the citizens directly affected by your decision,do not have a direct vote in this matter. We only have you,the members of our City Council to represent us. We ask that you represent our interests. Alpine Pointe is a wonderful, enjoyable, peaceful Meridian neighborhood. You have the opportunity to help maintain the nature of our neighborhood or not. Please consider the citizens of Alpine Pointe when you make your decision. Sincerely, Steven and Nancy Hasselblad -U 4242 N Chelmsford Place Alpine Pointe Neighborhood Meridian, Idaho
