To the Members of the Meridian City Council, and
To the Meridian Planning and Zoning Commission:
Dear Honorable Mayor Simison, members of the Meridian City Council and Meridian
Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z),and city staff.
This letter addresses progress and future concerns pertaining to the Delano Planned
Subdivision currently scheduled for public hearing to Meridian P&Z on March 19,2020.
My wife and I are currently scheduled to be out of town and will unable to attend the public
hearing.
Issues pertaining to the February 18, 2020 meeting at the Tree City Church with Boll Cook
Investing of Boise Idaho and neighbors of Alpine Pointe:
I would first like to state that many of the issues related to the previous Delano Subdivision
Plat have been resolved. Our Alpine Ponte neighbors asked for concessions that reduced
housing density, limited the use of Dashwood Lane to only emergency traffic and the
construction of single-story homes directly adjacent to our subdivision. The new Plat for
Delano Subdivision as presented to us at the Tree City Church on February 18,2020 has met
all the criteria. My wife and I applaud the plan as presented to us.
Our concerns for the new plan and additional plans are as follows: E Jasmine Street will
eventually connect to N Rogue River Way. N Rogue River Way connects to Wainwright in
the heart of Alpine Pointe, very near the community pool, open space and sport courts.
While the reduced number of residents in theory means less initial traffic, future
development and traffic is still a concern of all the Alpine Pointe neighbors. As the growth
of our community continues it is the responsibility of our elected officials to help citizens
take proactive measures to ensure public safety. We are asking for several traffic calming
strategies to be implemented early in the development process. Each Plat that a developer
presents to the City of Meridian owns a share of the cost in this process to ensure public
safety.
a d§fCi'ig`tdFtwo officially ina-fked"cross walks to be signed and street labeled at the
community pool area on E Wainwright Dr and at the play structure on N Camas Creek Way.
N Camas Creek Way will become the defector main street to W McMillian and North Locust
Grove via Settlers Bridge Subdivision.
We are also asking for formal Stop signs (four)to be placed at the following intersections: N
Linwood Way and N Camas Creels Way,E Lacewood Drive and N Camas Creek Way, E
Granadillo Dr and N Camas Creek Way and E Wagon St and N Camas Creek Way.
We are also asking that the Mayor's office working with the City of Boise and ACHD
correctly display the speed limit sign on East and West Wainwright Dr. Highway 55, (North
Eagle Road) intersections of Wainwright Dr have conflicting posted speed limits.
Wainwright Drive coming into Alpine Point Business Park and subdivision is marked 25
mph. While drivers turning into West Wainwright Dr see the posted speed is 20 mph. There
there are no businesses,no driveways, just a one of intersections on W Wainwright Dr.
Alpine Pointe Business Park has commercial traffic, school bus stops, drivers making U
turns, and residential traffic at a higher posted speed limit. Once in the Alpine Pointe sub
division drivers encounter RV's,turning into driveways, sweeping blind corners, and
limited visibility from on street parking, yet drivers can travel a higher speeds. We are
asking our elected officials to change the posted speed limits for Alpine Pointe and W
Wainwright Dr to 20 mph.
• In review,we support the newly modified Plat for the Delano Subdivision as presented
to us on February 18,2020 that reduces housing density, limits access to Dashwood Dr
to emergency and pedestrian traffic and constructs single story homes adjacent to
Alpine Pointe.
• We believe that Meridian Planning and Zoning along with the Mayor's Office, should ask
the developer to proactively implement several traffic calming strategies that include;
two"official crosswalks"with signs and road markings for public safety at the common
areas most impacted by additional traffic on Wainwright and Camas Creek. And four
STOP signs:along N Camas Creek Way at N Linwood Way, E Lacewood Dr, E Granadillo
Dr,and E Wagon St.
• Lastly,we ask that the City of Meridian, work with Boise and ACHD to change the posted
the speed on W Wainwright Dr to 20 mph providing consistent speed limits for divers
headed in both directions.
As the remaining parcels adjacent to Alpine Pointe are available for sale and sell, this
strategy for working together set forth by this process can set a positive president.
Neighborhoods, developers and their elected officials work together to develop solutions to
mitigate increased traffic patterns in residential areas to promote and sustain a high quality
of livability in our community.
Carolyn and I live on East Lacewood Drive. Almost every house has an RV bay,RV parking,
or both. When maneuvering our vehicles onto our property, there is often a line of cars
waiting for the road to be cleared. This adds an amount of additional stress to all parties and
increases the risk of accidents and property damage.Impatient and often distracted drivers
try to pass or get around a driver that is focused on backing into a bay.Unfortunately, our
subdivision does not have a grid ded street design:Cher_efore,._there-ar bjj-ud- ornarc.,limited
line of sight and other hazards that often pose a risk to cars and pedestrians.
Thank you for your time and this opportunity to provide comment.
Sincerely,
Bernhard Bahro &Carolyn Sauer, 2584 E Lacewood Dr Meridian,ID 83646
