Re: Street Length for CUI-Cde-saCS o H-2019-0107
Dear Caleb:
We are in support of staffs recommended changes to the cul-de-sac ordinance ONLY for distances
exceeding 450' the current code should stay as it currently exists for anything under the existing 450'
requirement. We are not aware of any life safety or engineering issues with the current code. Please see
our suggested changes to the proposed text amendment in red below:
11 -6C -3B4. Cul -De -Sacs:
a. No streets or series of streets that ends in a cul-de-sac or a dead end shall be longer than four
hundred fifty feet (450') five h lRdFed feet (5090 except as allowed in subsection b of this section.
b. The City Council may approve a dead end street up to seven hundred fifty feet (750') in length
where there is a physical barrier such as a steep slope, rail road tracks or a large water way, that
prevents extension; and where a pedestrian connection is provided from the street to an adjacent
existing or planned pedestrian facility.
c. Cul-de-sac streets shall serve a maximum of thirty (30) dwelling units if it is over 450' in length.
d. The length of a cul-de-sac street shall be measured from the near edge of right-of-way to the
center of the turnaround.
We do not feel that there is a problem with the current code and believe that 450' is a reasonable
distance for a dead-end cul-de-sac.
Sincerely,
Jim Conger
