Re: Locust Grove Comprehensive Plan
I’d like to thank the Mayor and the City Council for the time they have spent on the
comprehensive long-term planning project at Locust Grove & Bentley. My name is Pim
Hoogland and I have the property located at 1625 Bentley. This is no longer a desirabl e
location for a residence.
In the past, we lived on a dead-end street and it was absolute paradise. We had large
oak trees across the street that shaded our house and had trees surrounding our property.
When the overpass came in, the oak trees had to be cut down. Locust Grove was
widened which took out my garden spot and my well. If that wasn’t bad enough,
approximately 25’ – 30’ west of my master bedroom, you will now find Locust Grove. The
noise from the traffic makes living in the house difficult . The overpass was a blessing to
many, but not for me.
When the overpass was complete, Locust Grove was on the west side of the house,
Bentley is on the north and Truss Place on the east. I now have roads on three sides of
my house, not desirable for a residence. As I have mentioned in the past, all properties
abutting Locust Grove should be designated a commercial zoning, so that the houses to
the east of mine will have a buffer from Locust Grove. I believe the commercial zoning
would be the best use of the property.
Having been a business owner in Meridian for several years, I believe having roads
around your property is desirable. The Bentley property is currently hooked up to
Meridian City services, water and sewer, even though it is in the count y. That was
completed during the overpass construction when our well, septic tank and drain field
were affected. These old systems are no longer in working order. The well has been
filled along with the septic tank. We are very happy with the service s we have received
from the City.
One thing that was accomplished during the overpass construction was providing four
points of ingress and egress to the Bentley property shown as curb cuts. There is one
onto Locust Grove, one onto Bentley and two onto Truss Place. I believe after dealing
with commercial property in the past, points of ingress and egress are important to this
type of commercial designation.

This Bentley property will be a valuable location for a commercial business. If I wasn’t so
close to retirement, I may have moved back and continued my flooring business in the
Treasure Valley. Having been part of COMPASS years ago, I understand the difficulty of
planning for short-range and long-range goals. Gazing into the imaginary crystal ball is
not easy.
The need to wait for a new Mayor and City Council in my opinion is not necessary. The
vision that the current Mayor and City Council have shown has been thought out
thoroughly focusing on the current growth and 20-year planning into the future. I want to
thank Mayor Tammy de Weerd, City Council President Joe Borton, Vice President Luke
Cavener, Anne Little Roberts, Genesis Milam, Ty Palmer and Treg Bernt for the excellent
service they have provided for the City of Meridian these past years.
Best regards,
Pim Hoogland
