Dear neighbors:
Magical Minds Preschool
2571 E Taormina Drive
Meridian, ID 83642
As some of you already know, Karena has for many years dreamed of opening her own preschool. This
year, we have decided to make that dream a reality. While this is an exciting time for us, we recognize
this also affects you, our neighbors. For that reason, we want to share information about our plans with
you and answer any questions you may have.
The preschool will operate during the school year and will generally follow the schedule of the public
schools. Initially our plan is to hold classes three days a week, Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday. We may
also host occasional evening events, such as a program for parents at the conclusion of each semester.
Classes will occur during school hours, consisting of a morning class and an afternoon class of about
eight students each. In the future, to accommodate demand we might consider expanding this to ten,
or possibly as many as twelve students at a time, but only if we feel we can do so without impairing the
quality of classroom instruction and interaction, and without disrupting the neighborhood.
Students will be over the age of four (pre -kindergarten). While class is in session, students will either be
indoors, or participating in activities in our back yard. We have a bedroom suite on the main floor of our
house that will be used as a classroom and to store supplies, amounting to about 450 square feet.
The staff will consist of Karena plus a rotating schedule of parent volunteers. For now we do not have
plans to hire any employees. If at some point we decide to do so, it would be either as an assistant to
Karena in the classroom or as a teacher to take her place. We would not have multiple classes meeting
simultaneously.
While some students may live close enough to walk, there will be some car traffic. As parents drop off
their children we anticipate a minimal impact on neighborhood traffic, lasting for maybe 5-10 minutes
prior to each class. (It may take longer at first as parents help their children adjust to a new routine.)
The pickup process is expected to take 10-15 minutes depending on how early parents show up to wait
for their children.
We will be encouraging parents to walk their children where possible, or to make use of carpooling. Our
driveway can accommodate three vehicles waiting to pick up students, and two additional vehicles could
wait alongside the curb in front of our house. If more on -street parking/waiting space is needed, we will
instruct parents to avoid regularly parking directly in front of a neighbor's home unless we have
consulted with that neighbor.
Thank you for being the great neighbors that you are! Our goal is to make a positive impact on our
community and neighborhood.
Sincerely,
Richard & Karena Gardner
