HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-11-12 Locust View Heights LettersNovember 11,2019 To whom it may concern: Our Locust Grove Heights Subdivision has been dealing with the Meridian City Council since February, 2019, about zoning changes, etc. There appears to be conflict of interest with former and present authorities with bias in favor of developers instead of individual property rights. Many of the developers in the valley are from out of state. They are here for financial gain and not the welfare of the community in the long run. Some are in favor of "urbanizing" Meridian which is the direct opposite of Meridian's advertising and goals of being family friendly. In a recent survey, an overwhelming majority of home owners valued larger lots and less urbanizing. Our subdivision provides the buffer zone to the north of the freeway with mature trees and wildlife. Past mistakes by the city of not placing a through street through Woodbridge Subdivision, as originally planned, helped the developer gain financially. Now by rezoning our subdivision, the City is hoping a developer will put a through street down Cadillac St. By shifting the responsibility of that mistake to us, the city is destroying a family centered neighborhood. It will also lower many of our property values significantly after the first few sales. Individual property rights are being ignored by this type of rezoning, as the majority of owners choose to remain R1 zoning with no changes. As county citizens, we have no voting rights for city decisions. For over 50 years we have supported financially Meridian schools, fire department, churches, community events, and community morals. Our neighbors are military, business owners, teachers, skilled craftsmen, clergy, engineers, and other contributors to society. We are not a welfare area. We are all taxpayers who feel our rights are being infringed upon. Thank you for your consideration of the wishes of this neighborhood to remain intact. Sincerely, C' y ,C s. aG& o -766`? November 12, 2019 Locust View Heights Neighborhood Zoning Changes proposed by the City of Meridian Staff Committee Many of the proposals for Locust View Heights Subdivision would be of great benefit to an assortment of owners of property in the area and also developers. These proposals, if implemented, would greatly damage our subdivision and be very costly to many of our property owners. For many years after our neighborhood was built, there was vacant land that could have been reserved for a transportation corridor. Some portion of our County or City Government failed to do this. Why are we now expected to sacrifice our neighborhood to correct this mistake? Murvin and Ann Lindley, original owners of property in Locust View Heights Lex Me Y- ' d) a -q ; November 10, 2017 To Whom It May Concern, A couple of days ago, Fox News covered a story regarding diminishing farm land and increased development in Ada County and surrounding areas. This is happening rapidly within the Meridian 20 year Comprehensive plan. Fifty year old subdivisions, in the Meridian area, are being re -zoned to accommodate development and further congestion. I am referring specifically to the Locust View Heights Subdivision, a 50+ home subdivision on acre lots located between Eagle Road and Locust Grover Road just north of the freeway. In February 2019, The City of Meridian sent out a post card to the homeowners inviting them to a 3rd meeting discussing the changes proposed for their subdivision. This was the first time any thing was brought to the homeowner's attention. Following this notice we have attended several city council meetings, met with city officials, and in October attended a lengthy Planning and Zoning meeting. During the 5 hour plus Planning and Zoning meeting when this issue was discussed, it was decided to use the Steering Committees recommendation to keep the R1 zoning designation for the Locust View Heights Subdivision. The Planning and Zoning members then went onto the next issue. Many of those in attendants, including myself, left feeling that this issue had been resolved. However, before the meeting was adjourned, apparently Planning and Zoning revisited this issue and reversed their decision to return to a previous Meridian City staff recommendation. The decision was made on the advice of Brian McClure and Caleb Hood who are members of the City Planning staff. This subdivision, which is not in the Meridian City limits, will be divided per their recommendation into multiple use density (MUD) and commercial and industrial zoning, with a future plan of a connecting road between Eagle Road and Locust Grove Road. The City Council meeting to finalize this zoning will be held on November 19th. This is all being done per the opposition of the majority of the land owners and is nothing more than a land grab benefiting the property developers due to the newly designated areas titled "Opportunity Zones." Thank you for reading my concern. I would appreciate any attention/coverage you could extend because this is a problem that is only going to increase in the future eroding our community and way of life.
