Dear Mr. Johnson,
I am a long-time resident of Meridian, having moved here when I was six years old. Meridian is a wonderful place and it
is easy to be happy living here.
My father bought the Grosso farm when I was in school, cleared it and farmed here for some years before uniting with
the neighbor and developing the area into Skyview Ranchettes. My husband and I have lived on El Gato since 1986. It is
part of my dad's old farm. We love it! We hope to live here for another 25 years.
We enjoy a wide variety of wildlife here. Deer, coyotes, wild turkeys, families of fox, nesting hawks, a Great Horned
Owl, and other smaller owls. Canadian geese land on the crown of our barn.
Two of our neighbors have planted trees and bushes over nearly their entire open space. One hosts groups of youth,
cub scouts, boy scouts, young women and their leaders to camp out, learn to cook on fire, identify what lives and grows
here in our area, and feel the peace of a wilderness-like location without long travel time. These groups come multiple
times all through the year.
We respectfully ask that the new FLUM preserve the designation of low-density for our homes and farms north of the
railroad tracks. In my opinion, industrial use belongs to the south, with possible growth along the new extension of
Highway 16.
Thank you for your kind consideration.
Sincerely,
Deanna Pond
